Sega Blames Gearbox For Aliens: Colonial Marines Misleading Marketing

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sega's only thing they did wrong was not have a tighter leash on Gearbox. Sega did exactly what gamers everywhere seem to want. They gave Gearbox a blank check and told them to go wild without worry about consequences or deadlines. Gearbox happily took that money and abused the fuck out of the trust that Sega gave them.

Fuck Gearbox for this whole situation.

I'm pretty sure that's what Sega is trying to argue here (at least by the wording of this article). It doesn't seem as though they're denying their hand in the game's false advertising, but rather insisting that Gearbox played a large role in it too where as Gearbox had been claiming they had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Sega blames Gearbox, Gearbox blames Sega, and in the end neither of them really have to take responsibility for their own actions, no laws or anything are passed to prevent the industry from doing this again, the entire video game industry doesn't learn a damn thing from this no matter what happens and will keep pulling crap like this anyway.

Well credits to Sega for already taking responsibility since they agreed to settle and I believe gearbox should be burned for this as well as they ultimately made the piece of crap.

Did Gearbox get sued for the shit they pulled on SEGA? Because they fucking deserve it. SEGA gave them money to make an Aliens game, they took it and made Borderlands 2, and when SEGA dialed and said "ummmm what about the game we paid you to make?" They haphazardly released this trash and SEGA gets the brunt of the blame and lost money.

Simple really it's the classic David vs Goliath situation.Sega are the big bad publisher whereas Gearbox are the plucky little developer.In that scenario a lot of people will take the side of the smaller party regardless of the facts.Doesn't help either that Sega's reputation has taken a battering in recent years with all the poorly received Sonic games as well as the youtube controversy.Meanwhile Gearbox have released Borderlands 1&2 which were critical and commercial successes.You'd be amazed how much slack people will give a developer who created a game they love

Personally I'm on Sega's side in this.Gearbox had like 6 years to make an Aliens game.They outsourced most of it while they worked on Borderlands and Duke Nukem(both of which may have been funded by the Aliens money according to rumours)and then eventually churned out the turd that was Colonial Marines lieing through their teeth the whole time

I always thought people on the Internet blamed Gearbox, and particularly Randy Pitchford for the whole debacle. I mean, they don't exactly hold a clean record after everything that happened with Duke Nukem (both the game and the aftermath), and a lot of what happened with CM followed the same pattern...

OT: I think SEGA has some blame but, as others pointed out, they are to blame for not keeping a shorter leash in Gearbox. They are not responsible for most of the crap that game had.

I don't understand why people are still angry at Sega about this. I mean, they're already agreeing to pay out on the lawsuit. Gearbox is the only party in this controversy that's acting like a bunch of assholes at this point.
