Am I reading this right? I thought SEGA and ATLUS were going to be 100% separate. Does this mean ATLUS won't publish games anymore (since SEGA will be publishing ATLUS games)?
Might be some kind of mistranslation, Sega's probably acting as publisher in name but seeing as ATLUS US is still around they're probably doing their own localizations still.

Shouldn't be too hard, Atlus seems like a developer that his it's shit together. They know their market and they keep their development budgets within it.

Good to hear. Atlus is great at what it does, so leaving them be is the best course of action.

just as long as sega doesn't lay a finger on atlus' market decisions (their distribution is tightly based on the markets they're aiming for, and the amount of product they print), they're welcome to stick their name in the corner, as if that means anything beyond signing the checks

No, that's Square-Enix

Atlus are the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona people. They have other stuff but those are they're biggest titles.

OT: good Sega, the Atlus fan base wants them to stay independent as well, good to see we've reached an agreement, NOW, you just need to do as you say you and let them work in peace and I'll be happy to keep throwing money at them.

See I knew SEGA wouldn't go and screw with Atlus. Seriously all during this aquisition I kept hearing "SEGA is gonna ruin Atlus" or "welp I guess we won't get games localized anymore." I love it when I'm right about things and that those naysayers were wrong. ^.^

If Atlus could please start publishing Armored Core I'd be quite happy. BN are running it into the ground almost deliberately, so it's time for someone else, and Atlus has just the niche experience needed.

Words that went through my head reading that.

Atlus made Phantasy Star V.

I then passed out.

This is what they SAY, but what they're REALLY going to do...

Well, we all recall how 'hands off' they were with Clover.

Well they never touched Clover. Platinum on the other hand... They gave them money for some games and then were unable to localize the last on their contract for an extended period because they were nearing bankruptcy.

Also that was a different situation, that was SEGA hiring Platinum to develop for them under contact, Atlus now shares a parent holding company but has been left as self-managing according to every company involved.

In the first case, it was all Sega money on the line.
In the second case, Atlus is on their own but Sega gets a cut of it anyway as "publisher" due to being a senior member of the holding.

You mean Platinum games right, and in that case while it sucked how they interferred with Platinum, they still managed to give us Bayonetta. Plus that was a deal between SEGA and Platinum, and not SEGA Sammy. SEGA Sammy can decide what to do with Atlus since they own them, and not SEGA themselves. SEGA Sammy is basically how Index was for Atlus before, a holdings company. If the merger were between SEGA and Atlus and not SEGA Sammy and Atlus then I would've been worried.

Ah yes, I was getting them mixed up with Level-5.

I enjoyed Persona 4, although I didn't really care for Etrian Odyssey IV.

definitely an interesting idea for them to use older SEGA IPs. An Atlus-developer Valkyria Chronicles, Shining Force, Phantasy Star, etc could be very unique.

Oh good. Because past experience proves that Atlus publishes some weird and/or awesome and innovative games. Messing with that would be very tragic. I believe that Sega is doing the right thing here, possibly by observing how much it has been unhelpful to EA to tamper with things they shouldn't tamper with.

*confetti and cupcakes*

I'm so damn happy; I thought Sega was going to drive Shin Megami Tensei into the ground just like they'd done to Sonic. Oh, thank sweet Jesus and the Holy Father. (whom you kill/thwart/blow up in pretty much 90% of Atlus's games)

I won't deny that I'm happy to hear Sega take this stance on Atlas, but I think it might be a bit too early to see if that stance holds true or not. For now I suppose I'll remain cautiously optimistic and hope that Persona 5 is late enough in the development cycle that Sega can't interfere too much.
