Which of the rules state that everything is the fetish of someone? Just a wild guess.
Perhaps they were bored and wished to leave without seeming like they just disappeared, getting banned means they ticked off the mods or offended somebody in a big way, maybe they wished to give of that feel?

Honestly I have no real clue.

I see that most people have posted 'was stupid', but it doesn;t apply to people like Darth Mobius. I'm at a loss as to why people like him would want their account banned.

If it's because they want to leave, why not just leave your account instead of getting it banned?
Probably so people know that they have permanently left, rather than thinking that they have gone on holiday

I talked to someone who did it recently, they said that they had a gut instinct to do so. I believe it was a self suspension, mainly because they needed to get something done and they didn't want to be distracted.

I guess they want to leave the Escapist for whatever reason, but either don't think they can or want to be surepeople know why they are no longer around.

It's sad when a person I like asks to be banned, but I suppose it is their choice.

I've actually been thinking about asking for one for a while (still haven't made up my mind yet). Probably not an entirely permanent one, but one to just give me time for my A levels which I been screwing up entirely revision-wise. That's why some users ask for it, because they need to prioritise something other than this site which takes up too much of their time (Ultrajoe, mscherbatskaya or however you spell her name and Kukul all asked for suspensions for that reason).

Generally people just get bored of the site and decided that they no longer wanted to take part in it. It's a shame when it happens but I'm glad to see that they're no longer trying to force themselves into posting still, even when they have nothing left to say. Sometimes they decide that they haven't finished after all and sometimes they don't. Either way it's a shame to see someone I like choose to be banned, but at least it was their choice, instead of being banned for being a dick.

I can't remember any instances where people asked mods to ban them.
Max was going to ask for one before he was banned anyway. It's the main reason why he's glad to be banned.

EDIT: Fightgarr asked for one a while back before asking for it to be lifted again shortly afterwards.

I've never seen anyone asked to be banned, I have seen someone ask for a month suspicion. The mods were happy to comply.

Maybe they just didn't like us anymore? But what's there not to like?

I've done it on another forum. It's an effective way to force yourself to leave the forum alone when you've got more important things you need to be doing. I'll probably end up asking for a short ban from here at some point in the near future when it comes time to get some work done, I'd like to not screw up my degree any further.

On that same forum I've taken to asking for a 24-hour ban just before I go out drinking, 'cos I have a habit of going on there and making a twat of myself when I'm drunk. That needs to stop.
