This is not a game for casual "gamers" by any stretch of the imagination.
I hear it has the most compellingly immersive graphics on its platform, despite its age.
There's also no HUD, it's just you, your horse and the myriad enemies of America.

Can't tell if all the responses in this thread are trolling...

I know Gabe of Penny-Arcade fame liked it.

I'm a hardcore B-HAMR.
It's what we call ourselves. Pronounce it bee-hammer, we get really angry when you say it wrong.
So here's the ropes, balance is perfect and graphically it's stunning but there are some official league patchs for graphics if you're not happy. Onto the league, they're the officails in the tournament scene these days and they organize tournaments for all over the world but are based in France where they hold their bi-yearly comp. We do have clans aswell but not the same way other games do, they're more for the hardest of core players as they are facilities you live at for a year at a time where you train everyday.
When you get into it you can also track your stats on the League website, though if you join a clan/facility they will have their own ranking and stat system for your use. Get this game you will not regret it.

And finally our motto:
"Pony on Brother"

I see that the fanbase of this game is still alive and strong. While it may not be as stylish to join the bandwagon this late, I can recognize the next counterstrike or starcraft when I see one.

So fellow stable boys/girls, what advice do you have for a professional to-be-yardmaster for reaching the top?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but mystery ride was never to my taste... THIS is the best of the series:

It has the nicest community of the lot, and is certainly the most balanced and moddable of the Barbie Horse Adventures - whilst the learning curve keeps all the noobs out. If you're a hardcore, dedicated gamer, this is certainly for you.

I liked it!

I thought that some of the meta-physical imagery was particularly effective.
And interesting gameplay devices to that seemed to counterpoint the surrealism of the underlying metaphor of the pony-ity of of the developers compassionate soul which contrives through the medium of the verse structure to sublimate this transcend that and come to fundamental dichotomies of the other and one is left with a profound and vivid insight into whatever the game was about!

Sorry to tell you this, but that horse is pink. Pink is no where near as hardcore as brown, pegasus is for scrubs.
If you play that game, this is probably what you look like:

I don't know, I don't really get the fascination with the BHA series. Modern realistic horse simulators don't really do it for me, I'm more into classic style ones with unicorns and stuff.
Secrets of the Magic Crystal is a good throwback to that era but with a modern touch, it still has the modern realistic breeding and grooming things but it's also got the option to upgrade your horse to a magic one and bind its soul to a tacky piece of jewelry. It's a happy balance, like the Bulletstorm of horse games.

I can't recommend it, OP. The competitive scene has since moved on to more recent titles, leaving just us old diehards left, making tournaments pretty routine and dull.

It's still a great game, mind, with a great depth to it if you are willing to invest the hours, but if you're looking for a similar experience, you can't go wrong with Manhunt. It was made by the same team, with the same goals in mind, but they couldn't get a hold of the rights for a sequel, so they made that instead.

Have a blast.

I love this thread. I can't express exactly how much I love this thread. OP is a pretty cool guy.

This was me before I played that game:

This was my after:

The rest, as they say, is history.

I heard there was a easter egg that lets you mount a unicorn... so yeah, FUCKIN' PONIES.
I see what you did there....

OT: if you really can ride full charge into low hanging branches.... I might have to try this for giggles.

You can ride horses. Do you honestly need any more reasons?

Get off your sissy games and play this one.

Although it may appear to be pandering to the negative gender stereotyping with its superficial focus on girls + horses, the game actually subtly subverts that in ways that are far too clever for the uneducated masses to comprehend.

Yes, you are WRONG about Barbie Horse Adventures: Mystery Ride.
I like you. I'll make you a cake if we ever meet.

OT:

Eh, I dunno. I heard Yahtzee once said the game was pandering to obnoxious fans, and that it was really just a gunmetal-grey, dogshit-brown, shit game for twats.

I haven't played this game, and I certainly don't intend to, but I feel the game lacks immersion and focuses too much on the multiplayer aspects.
