Chill out, mods, I'm not flogging anything here.

I just want to know if selling your Steam login details is legal, or generally if people do it. I'm selling my desktop, you see, and I won't have any need for Steam on my laptop. Seems a pity to have all those games going to waste, is all.

It's against the terms and conditions and can be cancelled if found out it was sold.

Possible though.

Against Terms and Conditions.

I wouldn't do it. Maybe give it to a friend as a Birthday present?

People do travel. It isn't unheard of for someone to move halfway around the world. Although I would like to know how they could ever tell unless they found the thread or the auction or whathaveyou. Changing C.C.s or bank acccounts is pretty normal. As long as neither buyer or seller open thier pieholes I don't see how Valve could catch them.

Steam accounts by definition allow you to login and use the account on any computer anywhere in the world. Steam doesn't care if you move to nicaragua.

As others have said it is probably against the terms and conditions.

Also note, your steam account may have saved any bank credentials you entered in on your last purchase, selling that sort of info to strangers is NOT a good idea.

I'd personnally advise you just to remember the password somewhere. As long as steams in business you'll be able to redownload and play any of the games on the account on any computer, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to hold onto it if you even want to play the games again.

It is against the big T and C so if you plan to, don't.

Gordon will get you.

It's a TOS violation, althought they are unlikely to find out.
Personally I wouldnt be so hasty, remove steam and make a note of the account details somewhere.
At some point you will have another desktop and may well regret just giving away your account.

Thanks for the replies.

The bank details thing isn't an issue because I use PayPal.

You're probably right, though - I'll end up yearning for Gordon F and my dear Rochelle and wish I'd never sold it.

This is going to make me sound like a jerk but;

If you sell it and they get found out and banned.. what's your loss? You've still got the money. xD

Its completely legal, just against Steam/Valves ToS (wishes).
You could just go ahead and say "screw it" and sell it.
Only way they could find out about it really is if either Seller or Buyer do something stupid (like having the same Steam name like their eBay account or posting on the forums saying they bought it or whatever).

I even know people that create new Steam Accounts before buying a game so they can sell it afterwards.
It may be legal to sell it, though as a steam account is a contratc you would be in breeach of that contract.

It is fully legal for Valve to ban the account if they find out, as it is a breach of the license terms, and of the contract you entered into.
