Then what does this mean for a game like EVE Online? Where the big gambling sites have constant Real Money Transfer accusations thrown at them and through the sites it's very easy to cash out through a different third party with the in game currency. This on top of the fact that, through CCP, you can basically buy in game money via buying a PLEX(Pilot's License Extension) and selling it for in game currency to someone willing to pay for it?
If you actually tried to apply gambling/tax/duty/money landering law to that, certain aspects of the EVE community activity would probably be illegal.

So far police doesn't care. It's tedious to unravel it, it is hard to get the data, you will have disputes about applicable law ... . But as soon as the next ISIS cell moved money over EVE gambling sides or some Iranians paid for that way for stuff that is still under embargo, it might get shut down.

It's why all people involved have often consulted lawyers. That and why CCP cracks down HARD on RMT.

So, illegal but no one cares until they do. Sounds silly to me.

Police needs to prioritize. And as long as EVE isn't really used a lot for shady money movements because other ways to do that are safer and more secret, police won't invest a lot of time and effort for EVE. And yes, that might be a result of CPP fighting RMT better than the police probably could.

As for tatxes, that is investigated. People have to pay taxes for earnings with eve gambling and if they don't do, they might get incarcerated.

As for duties, well, not really worth it. There are so many international agreements about money movements, that it would probably legal anyway if players bothered to do the paperwork. The offices have better things to do with their time.

I mean, yes, they are legal online gambling sites. Law knows how to treat online gambling sites. There are quite a lot of completely legal online poker sites here as well, they are bound by regulations, earnings are declared for taxes, everything works fine.

Sounds like lazy police more than anything. That and CCP actually having a firm grip in reality along with the gambling sites to make sure they're on the legal side of things.
