When have you ever said 'WoW this game is unique'

i said it after watching

but i was thinking how come most games just feel like clones? and the reason i liked this trailer so much is because it looks different.

So tell me forum 'Why do most games feel like clones' and 'What do you think they can do to change them from being clones?'

If something makes money for one company, it seems likely to make money for another. New, experimental stuff, by it's very nature, has a higher chance of total failure, as well as a higher chance of brilliant success.

The way to stop them from pumping out clones is for people to stop buying them.

But the question is 'How do you get people to stop buying them?'

Through debate and witty repartee to the part of that game is terrible, but seriously you do not stop them many people have more money than sense... or so much money they do not need sense.

Damn I thought we were going all SW nerdy here :(

OT: How to get people to buy anything new?
Get a good marketing team on it and back them up with lot's of money, sadly this speaks against quality or innovation because those will also cost you extra.

Mirrors Edge felt pretty unique. Although it is not without a fair few flaws.

I have no doubt that many will disagree with me but I find Gears of War to be quite unique, there is something about the style of it that I just love.

Portal is obviously an excellent example, and the sequel seems to be changing quite a bit, so although it won't be unique, with any luck it will still be quite original.

I am not even much of a Star Wars fan and I thought the same thing from the title.

Why do most games seem like clones?

People like familiarity, and developers know this.

How do we stop people buying these clones?

We don't. We just need to hope that some companies are willing to take some risks and create new games that are unique. Although it isn't that common, it does still happen.

Um...isn't trying to do that saying that you know what kind of games that people should be playing better than they do?

People will buy lots of crap if they want to, and I'm not sure people should try to stop them.

I did not see anything very original. Seren these "disaster-scenario" games several times before. They didn't show any gameplay, so..Not impressed.

Well when the first one came out that color pallet was quite unique, noone ever imagined such a thing could go down smooth.
Now everyone is doing that damn thing :S
