For all you grammar Nazis out there, do me a favour. Does this sentence have any flaw in it?

It was Tom and Harry's habit to blend and drink yam everyday.

.....Are you really using us for Proofreading? Don't you have an English Teacher or a Parent, or heck, a program that could do that for you?

I go Grammar Nazi when the post is so utterly riddled with errors that I can't help but question the poster's age, or at least their native language. That and massive abuse of d00d sp33k.

Your sentence seems to be fine, unless they're actually drinking and blending more than a single yam split between the two.

Actually it poses a problem because the implication is that they habitually blend and drink yam, but they only ever do it with a single yam, and only ever once. You'd need to be specific- they're either blending and drinking a yam every day, or they're blending and drinking yams every day.

EDIT: Incidentally every day is two words. The only reason everyday slips through spell check is because it's a fairly common proper word used in names and such.

Oh. It's double possessive. Tom's and Harry's.

You ask:

'Does this sentence have any flaw in it?'

I say:

Yes, it has no meaning for a conversation.

Who are these people, and why do we care?

Structure wise, I say it has a flaw. It is random, it has no reason to exist.

Also: If I wanted to convey that as a sentence, I would have had at least one comma. Then I would have some sort of follow up sentence to confirm more of a meaning.

Then I would call out really loud: Grammar is not about being perfect! It's the attempt that counts!

I would personally go with, "It was a habit of Tom and Harrys to blend and drink yam every day."

Why yes I am. I AM living in Singapore. What with the multi-racial community, our "English" has been influenced by other languages. Our every day conversation consists of Chinese, Chinese dialects, Malay, and English. So no, I won't trust a parent or a teacher to do this. And a program..a program doesn't work. Trust me.

Still, we aren't exactly the best group to be asking. Considering that the Forum is meant to be used for actual discussion and not grammar checking and I'd imagine that an English teacher, even in Singapore, would have enough knowledge on the language to point out any mistakes based on structure or punctuation. The Influence wouldn't effect the grammar, it effects the Vocab.

It should be "every day" and not "everyday." I think that if it makes as much sense to use "each day" then it's "every day." Everyday is an adjective so the phrase would be, "It was an everyday habit for Tom and Harry to blend and drink yam."

Well no..you aren't the best group to be asking. But it's one of the better and faster options. And the Influence DOES affect the grammar. Languages have different sentence structures you know.
