Sentenced to death, what if you survive?

I'd think if you were sentenced, you should die. But... if by some freak accident the person would survive, and then survive the second attempt to kill them... I'd say give them a pass, for the moment, for being crazy-lucky.

Death penalty works by lethal injection. Your heart stops, your central nervous system gets shut down.... the dose is strong enough to ensure a painless death (this is the only "ethical" way) -- This question really isn't valid, but I'm guessing in the science fiction scenario that someone would survive, they would just readminster the treatment to carry out the sentence to its fullest.
