How is Aliens a superior sequal? Aliens is to Dead Space, what Amnesia the Dark Descent is to Alien.

Both are great, but one of those is a hell of a lot scarier than the other.

OP: The Empire Strikes Back.
mabye "superior" is not the right word ot use

fact is Aliens is a different genre (and on purpose) while the first works on slow build up and suspense, the second works with action and heart pumpting tension, anyway I love them both but the second wasnt supoed to "scary" the the first was

The Guyver 2: Dark Hero.
The second was better all around and the star was David Hayter which makes the movie so much better knowing he is Snake.

Aliens
Not for the reasons you might think. I just like Michael Biehn.

The Star Wars sequels.

Killzone 2+3
MGS4
Yakuza 3
Might and Magic 6

KOTOR 2. Well, I think if it was finished it would be, but right now it's pretty much tied with 1.
Portal 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Two Worlds II (Not much of an accomplishment but it's still a fun game :V)

As for movies?

The Dark Knight, I guess.

I was just thinking about movies, but whatever. I'm not your father, do whatever you want.

Okay well my first thought was Aliens when i saw the thread :)
seems the OP had that covered. Good man.

okay well here's my list, feel free to disagree, but i are be thinking it nontheless:-

- Terminator 2
- Crank 2
- Die Hard 3 (i know, not the FIRST sequel, but it still counts)
- Rambo 2
- Rocky 3
- Indiana Jones 3

There's plenty more but i'm not going to clog up my post with them
And as for games, well i don't think it needs to go there.
In my experience theres USUALLY an improvement from game sequels when compared to how often the original idea is improved in film sequels
Crap! How did I forget to mention Terminator 2! I am a failure and I apologize. I understand if you hate me forever. Even the people who made the Terminator movies said T2 was the better one.

I picked superior because it sounded better than "Sequels That Are More Entertaining Than The First" as a thread title. I like both movies a lot, but Aliens is just better in my opinion. Also, Aliens was pretty scary at points. Like when the troops are ambushed by the aliens, or when Ripley and Newt get attacked by the facehuggers. It just doesn't have those long periods of suspenseful quiet where you think something is going to jump out... but it doesn't... then BOOM... OMFG!!!! wait... it's just a cat. Dangit Jonsie, you shithead.

It depends on what kind of movie you like.

I don't like horror movies. Never have. I love, love, LOVE the movie Aliens, because it isn't a horror movie - it's an action sci-fi movie.

Alien and Alien 3 were both good horror films. I can recognize their quality without actually enjoying either of them. If one liked horror films, then I imagine both would be excellent movies. For me, they aren't. Apparently the same goes for the OP.

I asked because I didn't want to derail the thread into a direction you didn't want.

I believe that sequels work in one of three ways. One, the original is awesome and every sequel after are horrible, because the original wasn't meant to have sequels. Two, which applies to trilogies only really, where the original and third are great, and the middle one is the story that ties story A and story C together, and is pretty flimsy. Three, the first is alright, but slow, the second is amazing, and then it goes to hell from there, maybe keeping the third as being good.

So, those that the second is better are generally follow the second pattern. The Dark Knight, Spider-man 2 (the game and the film), Assassin's Creed 2, Ratchet and Clank 2 (though it didn't start going bad until it went PS3), X-men 2, Thief 2, et cetera
