So Ive been watching the latest season of Dexter and thought of the idea of a serial killer based video game. It would be an interesting idea to toy around with. You could choose to kill with a code like Dexter, and only take out "bad" people, or just kill anyone you want just because. I think it would also be interesting if you had the choice of staying in a certain city for a certain amount of time or moving from city to city doing your deed. Maybe like a karma meter that didn't totally suck.

I think the part that would make this game fun would be the possible ways of killing people, making it look like a different person so the FBI does not become alerted to a possible serial killer or making it look like a suicide if possible, or just killing the exact same way every time to alert the feds as soon as possible. It would be a hard game to design to make the game playable and not clunky, but definitely an interesting idea the moms of America would hate.

Well arn't most game characters serial killers?

Niko Bellic, Gordon Freeman, Tommy Vercetti and basically any person who kills humans...

Also the Manhunt games were pretty close to that

Well, if it's anything, Visceral Games (Dead Space, Dante's Inferno) are creating a game based on Jack the Ripper. I don't know if it'll be capturing him or actually using him, though.

I thought you were basically a serial killer in Assassins Creed, except you were given a silly title with ass in it twice as an excuse to stick knives in peoples throats?

Couldn't they say that about any movie or show that shows a serial killer in a positive light? I guess the biggest difference would be the actual playing a serial killer. But still peoples panties are in too tight a bunch these days. People like to blow shit up in video games but I don't see tons of people loading their cars with gas tanks and lighting it on fire as they drive into a post office. Just cause they do it in a video game doesn't mean it translates to real life.

Well, you're right, the moms and paranoid anti-videogame people in America and other countries would just go insane over the idea of a game like this. That's the first and biggest reason why you wouldn't see a game like that outside of say Manhunt which is already a serial killer game.

The other reason is that in order to make a game have such a wide variety of ways to kill people you would have to make so many objects usable items in the game to keep it from becoming so repetitive like Manhunt becomes after a while. That takes time and resources and the game would be incredibly large no matter what system it was on. Entertaining as it is there are only so many times you can suffocate someone with a plastic bag before it becomes boring.

Unfortunately, as it's actually a really interesting concept. But only if the game involved things like studying the victim's habits and killing him/her accordingly. Not just some idiotic gore-fest.

I though Manhunt already was that.
Manhunt doesn't really get at what I was thinking of. I want a more open world, very sandboxish game where you can travel practically anywhere you want (maybe keep it confined to major cities in the USA) and pick whoever you want to kill and how you want to kill them. You would have access to police databases to pick criminals and monitor police activity. It would be a ***** to develop because the game would be so huge and require so much time into covering all the ways you could play the game.

PS. also manhunt was trying to be a dark game that was in line with how people think of murderers. This game wouldn't be dark, just a normal every day life game, just where you are a serial killer. Be more detective like game then murderer/horror.

Have it as a game where you can choose to play as the killer, or as the cop chasing them. Sort of like Fahrenheit but without the weird mumbo jumbo and only featuring one side.
It would be a lot of fun, especially the first time playing, as you would have to try and predict the computer player's move like no other game ever.

Yes this is more like what i was thinking. It would be interesting to add an intelligence aspect to a killing game like this. Doing stuff like planting DNA of a person the victim had recently had a well known dispute with to throw them off your trail. Interesting stuff like that to make it an intelligent game.

Wouldn't that be hypocritical, considering the show already exists. It would be important to explore the motives and thought process rather than just making a gore game. I think a game like that would be best as a RPG, where perhaps you could level up your abilities but you'd also have to do the leg-work (i.e. tailing, getting to know your victim, etc.). It could work, and it could even avoid mass censorship if it was done correctly.

I kinda like the idea. Like preparing your crime scene to make sure there is no trace evidence and stuff, it could work and be reasonable entertaining.
'Course the media would be all over it like flies on shit.

I'd love a serial killer game, considering many of my video game characters already are serial killers. The mechanics of stealth gameplay are very well suited to this idea.

Actually, I think if they took the Dexter game, expanded it and made a distinct story for it (pre-season one preferably) it would translate really well to consoles or PC. Fingers crossed that they do.

I don't think that if they made this game it should be a Dexter game because that would limit you to only killing bad guys. I would like the game to be open to a fluid system where you had no limits on the people you could kill.
