Series in Reverse

In recent years I've begun a new trend. I'll play a new game in a series I've never played before and decide to play earler installments. My best example is Oblivion, after playing it religiously I decided to give Morrowind a whirl and ended up having just as much fun. I also did the same with Fallout, after playing Fallout 3 I tried out the original and it let me appreciate the newer game a whole lot more.

Does anyone else do this or is it just me?

If I'm interested in a series, I like to try and start from the beginning before playing the newest installment (like metal gear solid 4) but for some series it's just hard to find the original as they sometimes disappear off the face of the earth (Digital devil saga, Ico)

I did this for the Saints Row series, and playing through the first game after the second was odd, as you get a deep appreciation of this city and these characters that are the same, yet different.
