An achievement addicts view...

*cough* 85,000 gamerscore *cough*

Why do I collect them?

I got into a gamerscore challenge with my online friend, beat him, and just...kept going. I've vastly outclassed him, so "winning" isn't motivation. I just like to get them now.

Would I enjoy games as much without them?

I'd enjoy them more, actually. I had an absolute blast playing through Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction yesterday. Did the whole game in a day. No trophy support, though. And I played Oblivion for massive amounts of time despite having all the achievements long ago.

I'm doing Killzone 2 today, an find myself going out of my way for the sake of "trophies", which I thought I wouldn't do with the PS3. I restarted over and over at a checkpoint going for the "Get 3 headshot kills in the same clip with the revolver" trophy. Not an easy feat with 6 rounds, and enemies that frequently need 2 headshots to kill thanks to helmets. Sometimes, they die on the first headshot. Randomly.

Drop my old account?

If I was banned, I'd start over. Begrudgingly. By my own choice? NO. Never.

All of that said, I won't play a game JUST for gamerscore or to increase my trophy level. No Avatar on my list, yet, after all.

I'm somewhat of a trophy whore, I've got a little over 900 now, and to me, they're the water mark for just how much I like whatever game they pertain to.

for example, I have the platinum on bioshock, bioshock 2, infamous, disgaea 3, all 3 god of wars and demon's souls because I absolutely loved all of those games.

Assassin's creed 2... I'm at 97%, I just can't bring myself to collect those stupid feathers

it all depends on how much I like a game, if I really like a game, I'll put up with all of it's shit to get the trophies for it... if not, well... I never did get the collectible trophies or the "Pt" trophy on prototype.

You can't get trophies on PSN! If you start collecting them, your strong resolve will soon help you surpass my level 7! Then I cannot gloat!

* What is your motivation for collecting these things?
I have no mitvation for collecting things and I find anything related to collecting even to get a weapon eg. feathers in AC2.

* Do you think you would enjoy games as much if there were no trophies/achievements?
Yes I would probably enjoy them more if they were like steam based achievements where you get no actual score for doing them and were actually fun and random. Like the L4D 2 ones which I assume are the same on the 360 like knocking down the whole team of Survivors as the Charger which is a rae enough occurence or You only Shiv Thrice three backs in three seconds. The names of the TF2 ones are really inventive and add to comedy of it.

* Would you ever consider dropping your old account and starting fresh?
No because I would feel like all my hard work is wasted. Even though I have aspirations to grind over 100k Gamerscore on my 360. I am happy enough with my 24kish score that I have accumulated by playing games that I love.

-|||What is your motivation for collecting these things?

I like challenges. And it provides a replay value for games.

Games without achievements would be as enjoyable first time i play them, but next gameplays would be less interesting. If multiplayer, gameplay without accomplishing anything would get boring.

-|||Would you ever consider dropping your old account and starting fresh?

No, why would i want to do that?

I don't understand why people try to sell theirs online either.
People try to sell their accounts online? Really?

Are they successful?

I find that bizarre.

I was sent a message by someone yesterday trying to sell a gamercard for 2100 Microsoft points.

The fact he "hid" his achievements makes me think he modded his score.

The only thing you get out of it is a funny message from a prepubescent teen.
Ah. so it's a scam then?

I was wondering, because my brother lost his old account because he moved, and Microsoft suspended his account because the credit card address no longer matched his address, or something like that.

If I ever get such a message, I'll say, "Sure. Give me your password and login info and I'll send along those points shortly."

I used to love collecting Acheivements.

Im on 30,000 ishhh.

But Around 6-7K of that Gamerscore is hacked.

Biggest regret in my gaming history.

Earning acheivements was fun for me, now I just feel like ive cheated my way to 30k, where as normally I would be on around 23K.

Meh, I dont feel any sense of acheivement when i earn acheivements now.

Dont glitch your Gamerscore kids!

EDIT: I dont know why everything
Is
In paragraphs.

1. I'm an achievement whore and a perfectionist so I feel motivated to collect them. It also gives me something to do and motivates me to play through multiple times.

2. I would probably enjoy games a bit more because sometimes I feel as though I'm playing just for the achievements rather than for entertainment.

3. I'd consider starting anew, but probably would not.
