Okay to begin with I installed AVG and it caused my computer to lock up randomly and completey everytime I tries to do anything, after asking around for a funcioning anti-virus here:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/538.252771-AVG-hates-my-computer-and-wants-it-to-die

I decided to try avast it installed but whenever I tried to run a scan it'd lock up and stop anything on my computer to run so I uninstalled that, then I thought I'd try Microsoft Security Essentials but that one crashed during installation doesn't appear in my registary and can't be removed.

So right now I am utterly devoid of a working anti-virus and am stuck with a half installed MSE sitting there being useless, in short I need help, I have no idea what the fuck is going on, my computer just refuses to work with any anti-virus and I'm stating to want to throw the bastard out of the window, come on people my PC's life is in your hands!

I'm using Vista if it helps.

Okay thanks to the advice given by you guys I now have a working anti-virus...
That took five hours to run a scan, is that normal for MSE?
Cause AVG usually took two at worst, I can live with it but still that doesn't seem right to me.

Burn AVG in the pits of hell, and DO NOT use Norton on a vista Machine.

Purchase wise, buy either Kaspersky 2011 or Trend Micro. I recommend Kaspersky as its designed to run on sluggish computers without eating them up (unlike Norton), and is widly recommended with old machines with XP still on them.

Before you do anything else, download the AVG Remover tool from AVG's site and use it to clean it out of the registry, then use a program called "CCleaner" to clean out any dead registry keys in the registry. THEN install said anti-virus.

Thanks for the advice and all, but I'd already done that before trying Avast and still it crashed, I then tried to install MSE and it caused a crash during installation leaving me with a half installed anti-virus that doesn't work, and I'm doubly fucked because I cant remove it.

Also I know all about norton, RAM hog that it is.

Have you tried booting to safe mode to remove it? That may work. That's weird that you're having so much trouble. I've used both AVG and Avast and never had any problems. What OS are you using? I'm not sure why every anti-virus you try to use fucks up like that.

Its possible you have something causing damage like Malware. Start it up in Safe mode (Mash F8 as the machine boots up) Start it in Safe Mode With Networking, download a program called "Malwarebytes", do a full scan, restart machine in Safe Mode, try re-installing MSE and if you want to keep it, keep it. If not, uninstall it in Safe Mode.

Check and see if the shit that came with your windows set up is down. The firewalls that are already up sometimes conflict with that stuff, and like someone said before run the virus scan or remove it in safe mode.
