Hey there Escapists!

Due to events I'm not in control of, I will be without internet until January 2nd! Tonight is the last time I'll be posting in 2013! :D

I was just thinking, with my own serious pledge of bettering myself in 2014 after a very disappointing and somewhat downer of a 2013, about New Years resolutions and those you are making right now.

What are your current resolutions if you have any?

But, more interesting to me...

What New Year resolutions did you actually stick to and live by? Is there anyone here who went a whole year not indulging in something they vowed they would stop? Is there someone who actually worked out like they said they would?

My current ridiculous pledge is to go throughout 2014 completely sober. Will I actually go through with it? Well, I'm sure I'll mention it next year but at the moment I have never felt more serious about a resolution as I do right now! >:D

Well, I'm done. What's your story Escapist?

[sub][sub]Because I'll be AFK during the actual event. ;)[/sub][/sub]

I'm going to start asserting my real personality with people. Tired of my friends not knowing who I am. :p

Honestly, I'm thinking of just making a promise. The treatment of mental health issues in society simply isn't good enough, and I figure I might be the person to try to change that shit. Too long have people with mental health issues had to soldier on, expected to keep up with people who don't have a ten ton weight dragging behind them. Too long have they had to suffer in silence because nobody gives a shit about illnesses that you can't see. Too long have they been at the mercy of Disability Allowance assessors who don't know the first thing about the illnesses they're judging people for.

We live in a world of social activism, where everyone cares about every little minority, which would be great, but nobody gives a shit about the mentally ill. This shit stops. Maybe not this year, maybe not the next, but I'll make sure my name is remembered as the man who made it stop. And that is my new years resolution.

I don't tend to keep resolutions I make at New Years.

I used to always promise myself at New Years that I'd stop biting my nails, I never did and then, suddenly, I just stopped without thinking about it.

What I wanted to do this year was lose a small bit of weight and start smoking less.
I've already done those so I don't have anything left for New Years.

Let me tell you, they are not easy things to do at the same time, my friend.

1. Read one manga book I haven't read before every day.

2. Finish one book every week.

Yep.

Aside from a can of Diet Coke a few months back, it's been a year and a half since I drank any soda, and I've been exercising daily for the past five months or so. Nothing too strenuous since I'm a lazy unfit bastard, but I've managed to drop somewhere in the realm of 75 pounds since July/August 2012, and if I can make it through the rest of the holiday desserts without putting weight back on I'll ideally be going for another twenty.

Resolution for next year is to set up a schedule to follow dedicating time to reading/writing without getting distracted by films/music/games/internet. And hopefully start going to college.

As my last debt payment is due in January, 2014 will be the year I get back on my feet. My primary goal will be to move into my own place again - even though I've been paying rent / board, paying for the internet and chipping in for food and such, I would be lying if I said I could not have gotten through the last 7 years without my parent's help.

That said, I need to get out from under their feet and stand on my own again. That is my only real resolution for 2014 - it's been a long time coming and I know it will be tough.

Bring it on!

My main 2013 resolution was to be more optimistic, it worked out pretty well until I lost my job (in May) and was diagnosed with recurring Hodgkin's lymphoma (in August).

My resolution for 2014 will primarily be to survive 2014...

Play all the games I missed this year because of school.

Pikman 3, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Pokemans, Animal Crossing, 3D World, Wonderful 101. I seriously need to get on this shit because 2013 was a good year for Nintendo releases (game wise, anyway).

Miyamoto is still one true god.

I know it doesn't sound serious, but I worked so hard this year on my year 12, and while I'm going off to uni to study journalism next year, I want to honestly make some time for myself to sink my teeth into these games. They are what motivated me to begin with, after all.

Since I don't drink, I don't smoke and, I'm never going to quit soda, I resolved during the new years of...I wanna say 2000 - 2001 that I wouldn't make a New Years Resolution. Yes, I was a dumb kid then but dammit, I haven't made a resolution since then though I do admit they aren't all dumb. I kinda wanted to start using my Rosetta Stone by now too...I've had it since summer but I feel like I may be getting a new computer some day and feel like the second I install it will be the day I get a new computer...

I should resolve to get myself checked out...I may actually be neurotic...should at least check it out...

Get on my level, sober for 6 years now ... get used to hearing "go on, just one little drink, it wont effect you" or "stop being so boring and just have one".

My last years resolution was to be less of an ass hole ... kind of went the other way on that one though. I did accomplish my other 2 though, be more social and get some kind of paid work, though to be fair, I only just got employed in an apprenticeship role, so I JUST got in with that one.

Funnily enough, I started voluntary work to be more social and get work, it paid off. Just have to work on being an ass hole now.

Finishing college (have one degree, going for round 2)! I'm 2 exams short of my degree, plus thesis. Seems reasonable and do-able.

Reading more would be nice as well. I used to read 20+ novels every year, now I'm closer to 10.

Honestly, I can't think of one right now. About three years ago I actually succeeded in getting into shape/losing weight which is the king of all New Years resolutions.

Maybe I will resolve to make some more friends, this year I drifted away from some of my other ones. I need to work on keeping the ones I still have while making more. Though joining the Escapist this year helped me make some online friends, so that's a start. :D

Another one would be to keep up the good work in college. I've never been the best student, but this year I've done very well academically, so I must keep up the good work.

Probably try to drink less, the hangovers are getting worse the older I get. I'm sure I don't need to drink as much at the weekend.

Get fitter. I am so out of shape its not funny, probably take up swimming to get some sort of stamina and don't run out of breath after 2 meters.

Find a nice young lady. Seems pretty easy but it seems that all female kind has forsaken me. Forever alone:(

Put curtains and a mirror up in my flat. I moved in 8 months ago, I still haven't sorted it out. I am the King of Procrastination.

None, really. I typically don't make New Years Resolutions. When I think of some way that I want to improve myself, I find it easier to start right away while the motivation is fresh. I've never really seen any logical reason to wait for a specific time of year.

Not sure it's a New Year's Resolution if you're gonna do it regardless of the holiday, but anyway: Stay single for at least six months.
Been in 3 serious relationships in the last 5 and a half years with hardly any single time in-between, the latest one lasted 3 years. It was all worth it, I don't regret a thing, but I REALLY need to be single for a while. That last breakup really sucked all the energy out of me.

I have a lot and I haven't been good at going through with them in the past, but damn it, I am going to try one more time!

-Read more books, watch less cable television
-Eat healthier
-Do something meaningful with my life *This one is a biggie folks*
-Grow my hair out *trichotillomania*
-Start yoga and walk/jog more regularly
-Stop living in the past
-Finish decorating my room the way I picture it in my head
-Reinvent my image
