Ain't that the truth. I think the fact that the "serious" make-over should be "good news" to fans says alot about the kind of company that's taken over the franchise. When will game developers realise that "realistic" games tend to look shitty and fake like someone pasted a photo of someone's face on a 3D model (okay, not so much these days but I stand by my point).Susan Arendt said:Well, guess this means I won't be playing Serious Sam 3. No disrespect at all to the developers, but the ridiculous over-the-top cartooniness was what set Serious Sam apart for me and made it something special.
The "general idea" of the series is that it isn't serious.scotth266 said:Why is everyone so averse toward this?
Over-the-top cartoony violence will likely be just be replaced by over-the-top violence of a more realistic flavor.
I haven't played the previous games, so maybe I can't really talk much about this, but it seems a lot like the previous arguments about Left 4 Dead 2 and Diablo 3: "I don't like this, because it looks DIFFERENT!"
It doesn't really matter as long as they preserve the general idea behind the series, does it?
I've only played the first encounter myself but this guy's got the right idea. It's not so cartoony as the screenshot that the op posted but it's far from brown/grey (okay there was a bit of brown but it was set in a desert!). Ditching the cartoony look doesn't mean that they're going the way of gears of war. It'll probably still be bright and over the top and that's part of the charm of the original.-Stranger- said:Has no one here played first/second encounter? Those ones weren't cartoony, really, but that doesn't mean they weren't colorful, over-the-top, and fun. I actually preferred them to any of the other Serious Sams. As long as they don't go down the path of gray, brown, and gritty (and judging by the screenshot, I'd say that's not the case) then I don't see what the problem is.

Because a Serious Sam game with realistic art is just Painkiller. Not that that's a bad thing.scotth266 said:Why is everyone so averse toward this?

I thought so too, but after I clicked the link posted by Nutcase, my reaction was similar to other posters in this thread.scotth266 said:Why is everyone so averse toward this?
