Yes luckily they are a minority. It amazes me how people feed into a group mentality and just run with it.
For a quote that would fit well here, 'A person is understanding and thoughtful. People are easy to use and rash.'

I would really like to be reassured that these sorts of people are a minority.

But anyway, for discussion, is America as misinformed as commonly depicted?
No.
America isn't misinformed, it is uninformed.
No, as an American, I can tell you we're MISinformed.
Death panels, killing grandma, sending govt agents to your house when you turn 65 to discuss end-of-life, full health care for illegal immigrants, shutting down private insurers, Glenn Beck being the best source of information, etc etc etc.

That's a lot of information, and it's all wrong.

. The U.S. is spending approximately $2000 PER PERSON in the country. China comes in a distant second, around a mere $65 per person.
I agree but your forgetting 1 thing,
China has like a billion people
You're forgetting your math....

2000 * 300 million people = 600 billion dollars...
65 * 1.2 billion people = 78 billion dollars...

This is just a small group of people compared to the entire population. To be honest it's good that people should be able to form their own opinions and voice them, irrespective of what they are.

EDIT: I hadn't watched all of the video before. It's actually quite scary. I must say that the Journalist with the microphone is well composed however, there is some obvious bias behind he comments.

Sadly, it looks like there is mass mis-information. Quite a lot of rumors seem to spread among the crowd, for example, the idea that Obama is a Muslim. He's clearly not a Muslim as he does not follow Islam but instead tries to follow the Christian belief.

It is clear that a lot of the mis-information has been propagated by Glenn Beck and the Fox News Network. The Fox News Network seems to work on fear, scaring ordinary citizens who not only don't understand the issues completely but because of they are being influenced they also deny themselves access to other media which would help give more facts and different opions and evaluations.

However, the so-called 'liberal' media does itself no favours by dropping to the same level as Fox. They should not get drawn into these pathetic back and forth arguments attempting to discredit each other. They should just report from a completely independent and non-biased place.

Fox News Network has a slogan; "Fair and Balanced". Given the amount of opinion across the programming and not just limited to the opion and editorial sections this slogan would not be allowed in the UK. The US regulators really need to get on the media, not to censor per se but to restrict mass mis-information.

2nd EDIT: I agree that public spending is too high and should be cut. Ironically the cuts in legislation led to this recession and spending is the current government policy out of it.

I do agree with universal healthcare. I think people believe they will be forced into the public option which simply isn't true. The private options will remain open to all Americans. Ironically while these people talk about the public health resource restrictions the same thing applies to whether the insurance is prepared to pay for it. Of course, surely it's nicer for people to discuss how much the can afford to care for you than you simple having no health care whatsoever and being given nothing but emergency care at the time of need.

As an American I take offense whenever such base steretypes are thrown around, this despite the fact that I have often been ashamed of my countrymen. Look, these people are not the majority, they are for the most part old white people what do you expect? Tolerance? It is recorded that Obama won the election with the aid of 8 million votes, and while some might argue thats not much of a percentage its still the size of Switzerlands population.

We are a large country doesnt it make sense that we have a alrge amount of misinformed people? And dont get me started on those Obama Haters on the web, they're like a bad case of herpes. Assholes have completely ruined the news forums for me, cant so much as comment on an article about the risk of antibiotics in poultry without without being confronted with their filth.

I misunderestimated how misinformed Americans are, they compared abortion to the holocaust, Millions of Jews and other groups/minorities/people slaughtered to a baby who isn't even old enough to feel or knowingly experience or even remember.
Aborting a baby who is less than 9 months old... The slaughter of the holocaust; Because they're on the same tier when it comes down to it. (sarcasm intended)I also believe one of them said "Only black females support abortion" ? Jeeeeeez, they're such planks it is somewhat unreal.

Americans on America - "Isn't that in europe? Ahh who gives a shzbzt, stupid commies"

People are stupid, blah blah. 'Merica sucks, blah blah blah. Ignorant rednecks, blah blah blah.

Screwing with other countries/banks/assholery/etc.

We've done this dance many times and it never changes. America's dickery is an age old tradition we learned from Europe. Idiots are everywhere and war... war never changes.

Reporter: 'You don't think obama is a christian then?'
American woman: 'No I don't ! He's a muslim'

...
And they wonder why we all dislike Americans?

As a Canadian, yes.

I work at a hotel and you have no idea how many American customers will correct me that it's "soda", not "pop", and oh by the way do we take MasterCard up here?

Yes, sir, we have electricity, phone lines and banks up here too.
This man ended the thread before it even started.

I once had an American tell me, out of the blue, "You know you're wearing pants, right? You Brits get all the language wrong".

I had not met this man, and he had already made me hate him.

best quote "facism is a type of socialism " these people have no idea what they are talking about.

And I must say I like this "NewLeftMedia"
Socialism is defined by the government controlling the means and distribution of products. Isn't that something the Nazis did? Doesn't the acronym "Nazi" stand for National Socialism?

Enlighten me please?
But the Nazis were really only that in name(initially they probably were true socialist), they changed the policies to appeal to whoever they were talking to. Then became fully facist when in power.

In name only. It's a common political technique. When the Communist party in Russia split Lenin named his off shoot party The 'Bolsheviks' (meaning men of the majority).

Technically, in socialism, the workers would own the means of production (So really it's the direct opposite of fascism)

You don't hear so much of a peep out of the American people because the media doesn't report on that, they spend more of their time talking about Michael Jackson, f'ing dogs that can surf, and other mindless bullshit like it. If its not that the various media outlets are yelling at each other about who's the craziest and least informative out of the bunch.

Sorry to say it but I haven't heard anything informative about the war since we lynched Sadam.
Im sorry to say it but that ceased to be a valid excuse ever since that thing called "the internet" was invented.

My country's media outlets aren't that informative either, but I still keep up pretty good with what's going on in the world (if only to laugh at the stupidity of mankind in general).

Just swallowing what's on tv and not even bother to check out the REAL news (meaning the ones not about some stupid celebrity) yourself when the majority is perfectly able to do so from home (you don't even really have to go outside your house an get the newspapers from the paperboy any more), is nothing short of lazyness. It shows that this is a people that doesn't care what's going on in the world.

And that's pretty strange since their own fucking military is responsible for most of the shit caused in the rest of the world. One would think that the american public would be a bit more scrutinizing of what their own hired guns are doing and what the president is allowing them to do, but I guess that's why warmongering presidents get away with the shit they do. The american people just doesn't care enough to stand up to the government and say no.

"Strength through unity, unity through faith/apathy" I guess...
You're right, its not much of an excuse for those of us who are educated enough to use the internet, but you have to think about the general public which for the most part is fairly thick and won't venture far past television news. I honestly do keep up with global news and have been very disappointed with what has transpired over the last decade. You're also right in believing that the American public doesn't give two shits about what goes on in the world, because they don't. I'm going to say this slow for you GENERAL MEDIA OUTLETS the operative word in the statement being GENERAL. Regardless that the internet exists people still get a vast majority of their information from television and televised news in this country controls the masses. Just because a few of us take the time to look at the rest of the world doesn't mean everyone else is on the same page.

I love how every country believes that they are all somehow "morally better" than the U.S. when in reality they're no better. Sorry mate but you better get off your high horse and start taking a good look at the society around you; yours is no better than ours when it comes to people.

I think my world civilizations professor put it in the best words when we studied the long term global effects of super powers. "The footsteps of a giant leave large tracks, inevitably you're going to step on someone along the way."
