Ok so I am currently trawling the Google and Steam for an interesting game to play and I don't know if its just gaming apathy or chronic boredom that's kicking my ass but nothing seems to catch my interest.

Can anyone point me at some interesting games to try out?

I love mmo's and have played wow on and off for like 7 years now, also got GW and lotro installed. I've played DDO and a shit ton of other mmorpgs and would like to try something were leveling to XXX and killing monster's isn't the focus, thus eliminated 98% of mmos around, but you get the idea. I want something different and I don't mind spending a little cash on it.

Even RTS or Single player RPGs I can grab off steam would be good. Just something with depth, immersion and gameplay more complex than "you have logged in... YOU WIN!"

Can you guys give me some ideas for what games you played when bored to the point of wanting to chew your desk just to see what will happen?

I have Minecraft and terraria btw and play them on and off too.

Well, I recently picked up F.E.A.R. 3 and that's a pretty fun FPS with co-op and horde-esk mode being fun. Other than that I'm waiting for gamefly to send me Catherine as soon as it receives the game I sent back. I've heard really good things about that so I say give it a try.

Now if you excuse me I haven't logged on to WoW in 5 minutes and I'm starting to have an allergic reaction :p

I feel like if one feels bored with their current library of video games, they should go do something productive.
I bet doing chores for a few hours would make Prince of Persia suddenly very interesting again. :)

How about a Total War? Or perhaps a Civilization game?

Alternatively, try something entirely different, like a few simple flash games on newgrounds.

Shadows of the Damned is a 3rd person shooter, but it's making me really excited to play it, a few shocking moments, a strong world, it's a good game if you're looking for something new.

Fallout 3 is a game if you like RPGs if you haven't played it. Get GotY Edtion if you can, worth it for the extra levels and areas. It's number 3 on my top 10 list, just behind Resident Evil 4 and just above Just Cause 2

Gratuitous Space Battles. It's a simple indie game in which you design and position your fleet of ships and give it some commands, and then you just sit back and watch a light-and-sound show. It's entertaining in a mild sort of way.

What I do when I'm really bored is that I listen to podcasts. Just go on iTunes and find some free podcasts that you like. There's a lot of good stuff out there.

Here are some of the podcasts that I listen to:

The Escapist Podcast (obviously)
Stuff you should know
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History (He has an EXCELLENT series on the Downfall of the Roman Republic)
Dan Carlin's Common Sense
Giant Bombcast
Skeptoid - really, check this one out. It is REALLY good.
Australian Gamer Podcast
Logically Critical - a really great podcast that sadly stopped being made in 08. But the old episodes are still available.

If you really want just a game to play while you're bored, you could try one of the bajillion Flash games that are out there. Some of them aren't bad! Really! Although most are. Another game you might be willing to try if you are bored would be Civ V.

But seriously, give some of those podcasts a try. They're all free!

Too early in the day for that, I prefer it as a night time activity, feels dirtier that way.

Problem is that its a generalized lethargy toward everything. I enjoy playing my bass and writing but those are boring too.

Could be worse I guess. Did just watch a movie called Cop out, wasn't bad tbh. Also got the movie "I hope they serve beer in hell" to watch too.

I haz FO3 GOTY and have polished it to a blinding shine. Got NV too but got bored of it about 60% of the way in. May have to investigate Shadows of the Damned. That a steam game?

I got Total war: medieval 1&2 both are too slow for me, also got Shogun 1, might get Shogun 2 or Empire from Steam. Is Empire any good? I know its a total war but it looks like a remaking of the mold.

Got Civ 5, its fun but last night I randomly lost a game. I was in the middle of invading a city state that had pissed me off, 2 attacks off conquering and I randomly just lost. I had successfully fended of a massive invasion from neighboring super power England having liberated Germany and Lhasa and the war was over in a cease fire. No idea why I lost even now :s

Played it, enjoyed it. Good call might give the 2nd one a whirl.

Completed all the FEAR games, including the bastardized "didn't happen" spin offs from the 1st.
FEAR 3 was awesome and I hope they make FEAR 4 using the same style as 3 as it was the 1st truly awesome FEAR game.

Thanks for all the love guys, a lot of good ideas in there.
Will investigate steam for some RTS games worth playing, maybe see if I can get Deux Ex 2 from them as well.

When I'm bored, I just stick on a fast-paced FPS like Crysis or Bad Company 2. It seems you don't want that though.

Erm... I play a lot of FPSes...

Try Dwarf Fortress? If you get into it, you won't be bored for weeks!

Haven't played Empire, but my housemate says great things about it. How about Rome? That's probably the best of the series in my opinion.

I prefer Civ 3, the hexagonal squares just don't do it for me. But apparently Civ 2 and the original are amazing, if you can find anything that runs them..

Played Rome, can't say I enjoyed it as much as I could have. May have to give Empire a chance to impress me. Played Civ2, 3 and 4 and its expansion ^_^

I game way too much...

Crisis didn't impress me much and I have completed BC2 on the hardest difficulty. Play it online with some mates most days. Rank 25 now I think.

Tried dwarf fortress and I will hands up say, that shit is beyond me. If the ui was friendlier than a republican outside an abortion clinic I would have tried harder but I just couldn't get into it.

Well, I'm downloading Starcraft II right now, and it's supposed to be pretty awesome, so I guess you could try that.

I play Tetris online when I don't know what else to do... I haven't done that in a while though. I have finally managed to get back into reading, so that takes up a lot of my free time! :) <3

As for a recommendation... Try Portal! Then Portal 2. Both are very interesting games with clever dialogue and unique gameplay.

You have Roy Mustang as an avatar, I respect 2 things in the world - People with barb wire tattoo's and Roy Mustang!

But I played SC2 and found it to be exactly the same as SC1 only with better gfx.

Played and completed Portal 1, will be buying Portal 2 in about a week from Amazon.

Try something completely new. Try a game of forum mafia, play a tabletop RPG, ect. ect.

Or find a co-op game to play with some friends. If you get the right group of people together, anything is fun.

Was thinking of that with Portal 2, also Dead island when it hits the shelves.
Getting Space Marine, Gears 3 and BF3 when they come out as well for the co-op shizzle.

Sadly ALL of those FUCKING titles come out in or after Sept!!!!
