Yeah, like an idiot I decided to preorder a physical copy of SimCity from EA, but then I came to my senses and realized it was a terrible offer so I decided to cancel it.

Now the rep I had to speak to for cancellation (yeah, you can't just cancel you have to talk to someone) was very nice and I have no complaints there.. but really

I have to wait until there dispatching it to cancel it... WTF? how can it be that hard to cancel a product that isn't even dispatching for another 7 days.

I have to do the same with Amazon. That isn't unusual or something unique to EA.
No. Amazon allows you to cancel up until a few hours before it ships, it isn't marked as "dispatching soon" until the day it goes out, and up until that moment you can cancel. In this case, the game isn't even ready to be sent yet.

$Really? My experience with Amazon is roughly the opposite. Cancel any time up to when it's listed as "shipping soon," as opposed to waiting until then. Also, the lack of a service rep being mandatory to cancel an order.

That seems very strange, I have no idea what the point behind this could be.
This is, or at least bears similarities to, an old trick to make it more inconvenient for you not to spend the money.

I don't know EA's motives, but this is an old mail-order scheme that would make returns hard.

Even requiring talking to a person could be considered a part of the same deal, really.

Is it EA's intent? Maybe, I don't know.
