So I was on Yahoo and they reported on something President Obama said and as expected there was a huge flame war in the comments with some people defending the President and other viciously attacking him. That made me think of this song.

Seriously why cant we at least be civil to one another? It's not just politics we are total dicks to one another on the internet and in the media. Anything where a large audience can be reached there are a sad number of people who are going to use that chance to insult others. Hell even I have fallen for that little trap. Granted its usually in response to someone elses insults on another but still why?

Bonus points to you if you miss the point completely and start flaming someone.

Honestly?
Because a lot of people are dicks. It's really that simple.

You'll learn to accept this big bad world someday. Or at least ignore it...

Because the average human being cannot tolerate being wrong. When two ideologies conflict with one another directly, be it religiously or politically, someone must be wrong.

Maybe some people need an outlet for aggression, so they take it out on the internet, where they are safe from retort. Or maybe some people are just dicks. I guess it's like asking "why is the sky blue?"

It's something that will never change.

Because we view the world through our own eyes and feel only our own pain. Compassion/empathy can get us only so far, but no matter how empathic I am, if my brother is shot in the leg, my leg will still be 100% fine.

There is no reward (other than the warm fuzzy feeling inside, which doesnt count if you are a sociopath, and also lessens as the world breaks you down) for being a nice person. So why be one? The only people benefiting from this is not you.

This thread is either going to turn into a debate on human psychology or...... continue to be flamebait.

People are dicks because they feel the need to elevate themselves over other human beeings in order to make them feel better about themselves..

And many of them dont have the balls to actually say something to another person up front, and thus use the internetz to express their opinion and make a mockery of others..

Also hormones are a total *****!

I think it's because we evolved that way. When we were all stupid cavemen, it made sense that the biggest, most selfish jerk would survive. The asshole would always walk away with the food/cavewomen/shiny rocks, because that was the only way to survive.

I guess since then we have learned to live together and share resources, but when you give someone total anonymity, and remove all the actual "humanity" from human interaction, IE: filter everything through stilted comments made through a computer monitor, people fall back on their basic instincts.

We just don't know yet. Do you or did you study psychology at all?
There is no one psychological method. Nothing about the human mind is agreed upon, we're just fucking weird, we're both logical and completely nonsensical. Whereas some people are generally kind, others are dispositionally horrid. Whereas some people can accept that someone bumping into you is an accident, others will punch you in the face for it.
I remember back when I was about 12/13, I accidentally bumped into this big guy I thought I was on pretty good terms with. I just said sorry and we kept going about our games.
Later on when I was drinking from the water fountain, he just came up behind me and smashed my face into the metal. To this day I have absolutely no fucking clue what the hell is wrong with him T_T

Or we could flame one another over our different philosophies.

I'll start. I believe that a differing opinion is just the way forward for humans, as it gives us an identity. An identity is what we need, even if that identity is forged through what we hate about others.

..Also, PurpleSky sucks <.<
One bonus point for you!

This is a debate sir. I am aware of several psychological principles but I have no formal training. We are just discussing why we think it is so. It is also appreciated if your responses are deeper than "Because were just dicks."

Humans, by nature, feel a need to set themselves above others, and for most, having no superior qualities of their own, the best way is to totally debase the other people around you until they look like shit and you look like king.

So what I'm saying is, Everyone on Earth is an asshole, because they naturally want to be superior.

Look you seem like a nice guy, we are not as intelligent here as we would appear to some, even without "wall of text" posts.

Go read a book.

Being controversial equals attention. Easiest way to be controversial (and thus gain attention) is to attack something or someone.

As for the internet, well... Anonymity is to civility what absinthe is to sobriety. It disappears, fast. Please anonymous responsibly. (This ad was sponsored by Moderators Against Senseless Trolling.)

For the same reason don't want to get along with a white supremacist/ serial killer/ child rapist.
Some people don't mesh with other people.

Conflict is part of free will.

OT:I think that if the world was invaded by aliens tomorrow, it would be almost funny how quickly all our problems with each other would disappear...

...and then we would go back to petty issues.
