From the sounds of the report, I was thinking they asked them really explicit how-do-you-take-your-sex-and-what-flavors-do-you-like kinda questions. Well, I should have known better. This is the United States, where we prefer to see multiple decapitations and dismemberments before we see anything resembling a well-done sex scene.

Kids are fuckin. I'm not kidding. They're way too damn young, but even in 7th grade, they still want to fuck.
Well Im only 3-4 years older than the age of these kids who were surveyed and of course high school I know first hand that everyone except the extremely religious is having or wants sex. Although still some of the hottest chicks in my highschool are waiting for that 22 yearold pedophile to 'sweep them off their feet' because they're so much more "Mature".

/rant

Although when I was in middle school its only the guys who just discovered masturbating that want sex in middle school, and a lot of them lied about actually having it. Only a few ugly girls with low self esteem actually had sex at that young age and not often. All of the good looking girls didnt even go past first base. The survey is more or less preparing the kids for highschool.

Um. I started getting sex ed in fifth grade. And then again in sixth and seventh grade, and then once more during my mandatory health course in my freshman year of high school.

If these kids are seriously hyperventilating over a simple survey at around 13 years of age, I have almost no hope for the next generation's reproductive capabilities.

A couple hundred years ago, it was normal for kids their age to be starting families for Christ's sake. It's not that shocking that such a subject gets brought up. As if half of them weren't thinking about it anyway. >_>

Yeah because instead of being upfront and honest to kids about sex we should just keep everything from them and let them be completely confused on the subject! Sure lack of knowledge could lead to teen pregnancy or STDs but we must protect their fragile little minds!

fucking conservatives...so glad I'm Canadian.

Holy shit, American kids are pussies.
Correction: American society is filled with a bunch of morons, ignorants and politically correct pussies.

I'm really, really getting tired of how our country handles things, especially our attitude about sex. We flaunt it all the time in the media but when it comes to kids learning safe sex or whatever, suddenly OH MY GOD ITS TERRIBLE BAN THIS SICK FILTH.

I could do a long rant about this, but I don't think I need to say much more.

Some Hardy 7th graders who took the survey last Tuesday, Solomon reports, were "disturbed," "bewildered," and "confused" by its contents; one reportedly "hyperventilated."

I'm calling parental bullshit.

I don't understand the childs freak outs, i mean hyper-ventilating? Wow.

The parent's outrage is more understandable. They don't want to think their child is having sex or knows a thing about it. They ignorantly believe their child is the very epitome of innocence. So they see this survey's questions of a permeation of their child's metaphoric innocence bubble.

Really? 7th grade and people are freaking out? I was getting formal sex-ed as a part of the regular curriculum by then! Are people in the States really such incredible prudes that they're shocked by kids taking a survey about things that are taught by a regular teacher here in Canada?

I don't get it. Is it news? By 6th grade I was sricking felt boobs and hips on the little example girl on the blackboard and was in the pron before then. What's with these kids?

Wait... what state is this? Might explain the outrage and panic (somewhat).

For the benefit of those living outside the US. How old is a 7th grader?
between 11 and 13.

This outrage is totally moronic, by the way.

The questions on the survey that are drawing concern were:

"How certain are you that you could name all four bodily fluids capable of transmitting the HIV virus"

and

"How certain are you that you could correctly put a condom on yourself or your partner"

That's hardly "graphic"

This survey was administered in a city with among the highest HIV infection rates in the nation.

Kids are starting to have sex in their early teens (like, at age 13) with increasing frequency. They are hardly "too young" to understand or be taught this material.

Agreed. People just seem to want to freak out over stupid stuff like this. I'm actually more worried about the kid who hyperventilated than the content of the test. Why/how would someone hyperventilate over something like this? Sounds like possible mental issues that previously went unnoticed.

In any case, it's a good thing that sex-ed started around 12 or so. Cause a 12 year old is probably much more capable than their parents think at obtaining porn. And we all know that Tera Patrick probably isn't the best person to get sex-ed info from.

I don't know about you guys in the US but my In School Sex-Education Classes started in Grade 4, that's at AGE NINE! Just some basic (but truthful) explanation of where babies come from and what sex is, but there was still something.

At that age though we thought it was mostly silly and giggle worthy. We also tended to ask really stupid questions.
