It took me awhile, but I eventually discovered this series not too long ago. I loved all 3 Shadow Hearts games. Even From the New World was quite enjoyable despite its departure from a dark atmosphere and lack of Yuri.

Now that I've finished all 3 I'm now interested in Koudelka. Although, I have heard quite a bit of negative things regarding its gameplay. I did notice it seems to have a darker atmosphere.

If you have played Koudelka, what is your opinion?

It's awesome but it is marred by some really odd design choices and graphically it hasn't aged well. I really liked it though but it's vastly different from Shadow Hearts in the way it plays.

Yea, the blocky and pixelated characters are horrible looking, but I can look past that. The battle system from what I understand is sort of a hybrid of traditional random encounters but with a srpg type of battle system?

I loved the Judgement ring on the SH titles. I like when turn based RPGs include a real time element like that. I think I will give it a shot though, also heard it isn't that long compared to most RPGs?

No it isn't long at all. I *think* it was maybe 10-12 hours ish. Although it has been a long time since I played it.
