I though the Judgment Ring added a lot of zing to the turn-based combat. Plus, they were all just so utterly weird that they had a certain charm. And Francis Bacon, can't forget him.

Been a fan of the series since Koudelka.

Legend of Mana (so disappointed after the brilliant Secret of Mana) is another example. And of course the biggest sequel travesty: Chrono Cross. Ugh, what a huge letdown!

That's odd, because I'm the opposite.

Legend of Mana is my favorite JRPG of all time, and Chrono Cross was a lot more enjoyable than Trigger for me.

I know. That's why I referred to it as being an oddity for me. I probably SHOULD have liked both of those offerings, but you never can tell what you're going to enjoy. For instance, I thought the little known Legend of Legaia was fantastic.

EDIT: Fave RPG of all time is FF:Tactics. (Though Demon's Souls has put up a good recent challenge).

That's why I'm kind of looking forward to Argarest War.
As much as I will not get the "Special Edition" (I would feel icky and my wife would certainly look at me funny) the concept of raising several generations of characters that retain elements of their parents, looks intriguing.

Have you ever tried Thousand Arms? I hope Argarest is WAY better than that. It had a neat concept where your relationship with a girl allowed for different abilities/ elementals to be placed on your blade. Too bad the battle system sucked. Thousand Arms had the problem where only the front party member could act, rendering the two other completely useless.

A friend lent me that. I found it nearly unplayable.

You are looking at one! Its one of my favorite RPG series! ( Johnny Garland pwns Yuri Hyuga.) Too bad the game series is dead, just like alot of rpg franchises on the PS2.

Also, my favorite characters form all the games are Yuri, Johhny, Frank,Mao, Shania, Gepetto,Roger Bacon,Zhuzhen,and Blanca!

I played the first two Shadow Hearts games on the PS2. I quite liked both of them, the judgement ring system kept me engaged in every battle regardless of the enemy, and the characters, and more importantly, the settings were fresh enough to make it a really enjoyable experience for me. I probably just about prefer the first Shadow Hearts for the settings, slightly less screwy characters and imo, better music. Although the gameplay and graphics of the second were much better.

I'll get round to playing To The New World someday, but it seemed like Yuri's story arc in the game was over so I didn't feel compelled to play it.

It's a very cultish game. I'm not surprised the OP hasn't met any fans. I sure haven't.

One my of favourite series.

Covenant had one of the most heartfelt endings to a video game in my experience. I loved Yuri/Uru as a character, proving you can be an unsociable jackass, but fun to be around (paying attention, Squall??). The established lore and throwbacks were always appreciated in the games, giving you a sense that this was a shared world. The side quests were also enjoyable and very useful.

Gotta love the Covenant for not taking itself too seriously at all. It still managed to make one of the saddest endings I've seen... While being appropriately weird at the same time for... Well, itself.
Weird and making the game in retrospect even more perverted than it initially seemed. Not that it didn't throw in an incest joke or two the first time around.

I liked the atmosphere more in Koudelka and first Shadow Hearts more though... And Yuri was of course a refreshing JRPG protagonist.

Yeah, the atmosphere of the first Shadow Hearts game was superb, one of the instances where I reckon the lack of voiced parts was actually beneficial as it added to the intensity and allowed the slightly haunting music to take center stage. Apparently Koudelka is a bit of a mess, gameplay wise, so I've avoided it so far. Not sure if it's worth playing.

Yuri was quite refreshing, but I still prefer the less cynical but equally playful charm of a character like FFIX's Zidane.

OT: Sadly, I've only played From the New World, so I wouldn't really be considered a fan of the series. However, I did like the characterization. Also,

I love the shadow heart series (this includes koudelka for the ps1). I own them all, even 3 (eventhough it was purely fanservice). Anyway I read that the series has become a bit of a cult classic and there are many fans of the game. Unfortunately I have never met any of them.

SO ANY FANS OF THE SHADOW HEARTS SERIES, TELL ME WHAT YOU LOVE ABOUT THE GAME SO MUCH!!!

For me there are too many great things about the game to remember.
