Today, another blogpost from Arenanet on one of the cultures we can encounter in Guild Wars 2.
This time, it concerns the Krait, which already had an introduction in Eye of the North. Read the full article here.
Now, the Charr are a very brutal people and they've commited some major atrocities in the past, the Searing not being the least of them. With EotN and GW 2, other aspects of their culture are explored and they are seemingly not without redeeming qualities. Not the Krait however.
The Krait are amphibious snakelike people, who have built their cities on the bottom of Tyria's oceans. Their culture is one of fanatiscism and cultiscism. They hold themselves to be the superiour species of Tyria (serpent supremacists, if you will) and treat everything else with the utmost contempt. At best. Mostly, they regard others solely as slaves, or sacrifices for their bloody rituals. Their slaves are kept in tall spires of cages, rising above the ocean, where they are constantly exposed to the elements, until such a time they are "needed".
They practice their fanatical religion by whorshipping at the strange obelisks that sparsely litter the ocean floor. They believe that each was erected at the ascension of the ancient prophets who created their docterine and that one day, the prophets will return with a grand army and flood the world of Tyria under one massive sea, that only the Krait may live. It's most likely the Krait have built the Obelisks centuries ago, but their purpose has long since been lost in their oral traditions.

1) The Krait are like serpentine versions of the frog-like Deep Ones
