I'm too bedazzled by the news that this guy gets a second chance at Avatar to be offended by it.

So that Last Airbender movie must've made a shit ton of money. Cuz otherwise, why?
It did make $319 million ( http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Last-Airbender-The#tab=summary ), however that doesn't mean it wasn't still absolutely shit. Tomatoes gave it a 6%, Metacritic only gave it a 20-30 (if I remember correctly), basically Shabamalama-sama took all the lore and world building from the series and pissed all over it. It had nothing to do with the story being too "childish".

I really wish Hollywood would wise up and stop giving this fucking hack work.

Buuuuuut then again, I completely lost all faith in Hollywood a lllloooonnnnggg time ago.
I don't blame anyone for cashing in a $319 million dollar check. They're responding to a demand, obviously, and that demand is huge.
Correction: the demand was huge. And the end-results of that demand was getting a big smelly shit-sandwich of a movie.

I doubt the "demand" for this movie well be worth another $319 million, considering we now know that Shabamalama-sama's vision for this franchise is like a cold glass of piss to the eyes.

Well the original sits at #37 on Rotten Tomatoes 50 Worst Summer Movies of All Time list so obviously he's keen to take another crack at it and maybe break into the top 10 this time.

Hopefully he'll add in a twist ending where both movies were really some kind of nightmare that never happened and the real film adaptation is yet to come.

Crap, I am really speechless right now.

I kinda wish they can take a note from DC comic per say in that we ain't getting a Green Lantern 2 but yet again we got Man of Steel.

Still I am pretty sure the entire fandom including Korra must be going full on Avatar State right now! They better pray he doesn't get his twisted hands on Korra in the future!

I'm actually okay with it. It can't be worse then the first one.
And you know, if it is, then it'll be fucking amazing. A cinematic accomplishment of bad.

Either way, i'll be amused as hell.

Might want to re-read that article, because you got suckered in by the clickbait title. There's no Avatar 2 confirmation, there's just Shyamalan defending his movie.

EDIT:

Might want to edit your post to reflect that, too, while you're at it. Seriously, people. THIS IS NOT A THING THAT IS HAPPENING.

EDIT 2:

The body of the article:

'Avatar: The Last Airbender 2' director M. Night Shyamalan continued to defend his first film from long-standing criticism. He is also reported ready to push through with a sequel.

It has been 5 years since the release of the first film in the series and criticism seems to want to continue following Shyamalan around whenever talks of a sequel come up. According to Movie Pilot, the filmmaker was not to blame for the Nickelodeon cartoon adaptation's failure with critics and audiences alike.

It is undeniable that Shyamalan is a master writer-director in his own right with successful supernatural films under his belt including 'Lady in the Water', 'The Village', 'Signs', 'Unbreakable' and 1999's cult favorite 'The Sixth Sense'.

The report tagged the 45-year old Indian-American an original visionary but may have done a serious error in judgement after accepting to do a 3D and live-action adaptation of the children's television favorite, which was seriously attacked by fans and critics worldwide.

Shyamalan defended his film from the seemingly endless bouts of disapproval in an article by IGN. He explained his motives behind his own interpretation of the series that clearly was below the expectation of regular audiences.

He said, "It's really weird because on the show the average age was, like, nine-years-old... My child was nine-years-old. So you could make it one of two ways. You could make it for that same audience, which is what I did -- for nine and 10-year-olds -- or you could do the Transformers version and have Megan Fox. I didn't do that... Those kids, it's for them. It was for them, to talk about mysticism and Eastern philosophies through a 10-year-old's vernacular."

He added that creating a kid's show into a mature, adult-oriented film would be like "a betrayal of the innocence of the piece".

On the other hand, a separate interview by IGN with the original animated show's creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante Dimartino revealed that the two decided to pretend Shyamalan's big-screen adaptation didn't exist at all. It also rated a 6% on film review website Rotten Tomatoes and 4.3/10 on imdb.com - rather low and embarrassing assessments for a Shyamalan movie.

According to Den of Geek, Shyamalan planned to push through with a sequel as evidenced by the introduction of Prince Zuko's sister, Azula, at the end of the first film. It was going to be a trilogy. However, despite previous news that he had already penned a first draft for the follow-up, no updates have come up since then. It is also uncertain if development for this would push through some time in the future.

'Avatar: The Last Airbender 2' will be the sequel to 2010's big-screen adaptation of the Emmy-Award winning children's television series. It aired on Nickelodeon for three seasons and was popular with critics and fans of all ages. The first film starred Noah Ringer as main protagonist Aang, Dev Patel as Prince Zuko, Nicola Peltz as Katara, and Jackson Rathbone as Sokka. It received generally negative reviews and was considered one of the worst films for that year.
Read that as many times as you need. No confirmation whatsoever, just a BS assumption on the part of the writer.

How on earth could a sequel to the film that gave the world Cockhead-Hairdoo possibly not be entertaining?
Pity it's just a rumor.

UPDATE: Okay, so I was fooled. That's what I get for not reading through. Sorry about that!

WHAT.

Seriously, who the hell thought this was a good idea?! Oh wait, Nickelodeon hasn't been making a lot of good decisions lately...

$319 mil is a ton, before you factor in the apparent budget of $150 mil plus the $130 mil spent on marketing. So that net profit isn't all that much, least not for what was supposed to be a major blockbuster. Which would explain why after 5 years it's director is trying to make a sequel happen instead of actually working on it, unlike the title of the thread says. Sneaky clickbait.

First thought (just reading thread title): YES!!! I-I mean, FUCK! Yeah... That's what I meant... *ahem*
Second though (the article): I don't know... I hear that Katara was pretty hot in that Marky Mark Transformers movie... *shrug*
Third thought (first evaluation): http://i.imgur.com/FwUoqgh.jpg
https://38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma02bugX1Y1rngfx0o1_500.gif
Fifth thought (final evaluation): http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view3/1473435/sokka-facepalm-o.gif

Other than all that, this has made me more curious as to how in the fuck will he be following this shit up... I mean, there's so much shit that goes down in the second book that I'm hoping, let along begging, for the last half of the movie taking place around Ba Sing Se showcasing all of the shit I hated from that little endeavor and very little of the shit I fucking loved from that part of the book... In fact, why not get Dante Basco, himself, to play as Jet just for this movie and then not even bring back this particular character during the "two-part" Book 3 movie because one of the producers told you that that's what you do with the last "adaptation" of anything these days...

I mean, my glob... This is getting so surreal that I won't be surprised if, just like the last movie, I walk out the movie theater like Sokka stating that the effects were decent, at best... Oh wait, I'll probably watching this shit on my own (hopefully using my one free movie voucher) because most of my friends, that have invested so much into Nick's little Avatar franchise, would rather see the movie Trainwreck than seeing a trainwreck in movie form...

(FPLOON is Toph and his friends are Katara, Zuko, and Aang in this situation...)

How about you try making a movie for ANYONE. You fucking hack.

And the person who linked the Nostalgia critic review. Good. He has what needs to be said, but I'm still furious. How dare he.

After reading that article, it doesn't actually sound like the movie is in the works to me. It sounds like Shyamalan just really wants it to be. The only parts of the article that say it's confirmed are the title and the nebulous assertion that Shyamalan is, "ready to push through with a sequel." That doesn't really sound like anything solid to me and the title could just be click bait. I can't find any corroborating sources either.

I recall YMS' take on Shamamee: "Maybe he's trying to pull a Jean Claude Van Damme by making a bunch shit in a row, then making something that's *not* shit and have people go APE SHIT."

But for reals: Shamyma doesn't know *how* to do a story like TLA. His strength is slow, creeping build-up. You can't take 300-400 minutes of content, and condense it to 90-100 minutes with that approach! Plus aren't the original actors too old for this now?

FFS, every decision made for the TLA movie was objectively wrong. I heard it barely made back its budget as it was. Why not hand it to someone else and start over? Maybe make something the fans are actually proud of?

What are you guys talking about? The last one was an artistic masterpiece for the ages.

There's making bad movies, and then there's making movies that suck so transcendentally hard that they will surpass all but the very best movies in your memory. The Harry Potter movies were "good". The Avengers was "good". The Lord of the Rings movies were "Great". But The Room, for instance, was such colossal shit that the suck factor divides by zero and becomes so fractally awful that it will be remembered for the rest of time, immortalized in college film courses on the exact subject of what causes a movie to suck, fulfilling for film students the same purpose that the Tacoma Narrows bridge and the Chernobyl reactor station fulfill for engineering students.

ATLA was an awesome show, but I barely remember all but a handful of the episodes. But I remember when we watched that movie, and we were laughing our heads off nearly every time a character opened his or her mouth. We played a drinking game where the rule was drink every time it's painfully obvious that Shamshamshyamalamamama (the other rule was "attempt to append another syllable to his name) can't direct worth a fuck and that no one even bothered to watch 5 minutes of the show ("Ong").
