Oh, Christ. The end of episode 3 was pushing it, but now it's just bullshit. Wasn't the point of this to follow Rebirth? Even if it wasn't, the budget for this project is nowhere near high enough to execute fantasy themes.

This had better be a dream sequence for an insane asylum-bound Kitana. Or Mileena. Probably Mileena.

They probably made the right call not giving Baraka huge teeth, considering what he ended up like in the second movie =p

Still, a bit too exposition heavy, and I can't admit to being a fan of the animation... more like the first episodes, please! D=

The very first teaser that got this all started made me think that the series was going to be entirely "real" without the mystical elements- such as the names of the fighters just being nicknames of serial killers, etc. I wish that had stuck with that.

Even still I'm very much enjoying this series.

I liked the Rebirth style with no magic and a logical answer for the characters. Sadly this is what happens when the studio enforces a change on something that wasn't planned by the original creator (of the series)

One thing that has now just come to my mind. I thought these would be one huge series than can be watched together in one sitting eventully when its on dvd. But all these different styles means the film wont flow or match the previous scene?
I look at it kind of like Kill Bill. That movie's timeline is all over the place and even has an animation segment out of nowhere. But also this is more like a tv show than a movie so it's rather like you're watching "Season 1" on dvd or something like that.

Really? Narrating? That's the best you could do? Narrating is the laziest way to do exposition in a movie and should be avoided if at all possible. Surely they could have come up with a better way to get this information across.
Then again, in ten minute episodes, it's kind of hard to tell any kind of coherent story. They probably should be doing this as longer episodes. Then again then again, what I've seen of the series so far does not give me the impression that they've got a writing staff chock full of talent, so perhaps longer episodes wouldn't solve the problem.

I thought the whole point of this series was to mix up the tired Mortal Kombat mythos into something more gritty and realistic? Like in the fan trailer?

This is the same nonsense that it's always been.

I though the entire Legacy universe would be technology and crime-based like in the Rebirth proof-of-concept film, but reintroducing the magics and alternate dimensions is still good.

I worry, however, about how they're going to reconcile the classic mutant Baraka from the episode with the human serial killer Baraka in Rebirth. I have two ideas for that:
1.) The human Baraka took his alias from a legend about the same beast or
2.) When mutant Baraka entered Earthrealm, he framed a human for his slayings.
Either theory ends with the human Baraka slain by the real article (who looks great in this show).

I can't wait to see how they do Shao Khan's helmet and adult Mileena's fangs.

I'm enjoying the series so far. That said, this is a bit of hit-miss for me. One the one hand, I thought the rebirth concept was great. However, how much mortal kombat can you have without the mystical elements?

I'm liking the series, but I have to see how they combine the first episodes to these newer ones now that the mysticism is in.

I really don't think this series is good. It has the feel of an amateur college production and the dialogue and acting are just... dismal.

Im confused why yall are confused. The creator of the original video said straight up that it wouldnt completely forsake the fantastical elements of Mortal Kombat because they were so important to the story.

Either way...I can take or leave this episode. I'll prolly enjoy it more once I have a chance to see the second part, but for now there just...wasnt much to it. You get introduced to important characters and whatnot...but its not exactly interestin how they do it.

Well, I thought this was shit. So much shit. Rebirth looked so much better, so much more fresh. This is PG-rated schlock.

Fuck man, I agree so much. This episode was by far the worst. Not only was nothing accomplished (Origins stories don't HAVE to be this pointless you know) but it was so boring and unoriginal in execution. Baraka looking like an orc with Lord of the Rings style narrative? Arbitrary animated scenes to make up for budget cuts?

And they're really failing on selling the silliness of the MK franchise. At least with a realistic reboot they'd make it more plausible. It will never work like this, because the different characters and origin stories belong to completely different genres. Either you get Quentin Tarantino to direct a Mortal Kombat film, or you don't do one at all, because you need a man of his caliber to juggle so many genres.

Ok, after actually watching...yuck. Shao Kahn...bleh. "Sindle" Bleh. Baraka...bleh. Either "Sindle" is Sindel's sister...or her hair is wrong. Sindel's hair is too defining to ignore.

Well, at least they finally showed why Shao Khan liked Sindel. Sindel in the games is ugly as sin, here she was at least attractive looking.

I agree 100%. In fact, they lost me in the first episode when Jax's police boss said 'Fuck the protocol'. It was so unintentionally hilarious that I could no longer take it seriously.

Then that SWAT Team shit reminded me of one of those home made Modern Warfare videos that fat kids put on Youtube.
