Area 51: (link to dl at the bottom of the page) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_51_%282005_video_game%29

And GoG.com has Beneath a Steel Sky for free.
Area 51 is a free download now? Awesome, I'm gonna have to check that out later. I mean, I heard it was a mediocre game, but you know, never turn up your nose to free shit.
It's fun, but I've been having some terribad slowdown after about twenty minutes of play, which is odd because my system is way above the recommended specs.

Warning Forever.

For those who like boss fights. Fight against one boss repeatedly, that evolves differently over time in response to your attack strategy.

I dont know if people want to install it, but I have Vuze as my bittorrent client and it added some online content providing thing called RaptR which has free games. Its a bit like a cut down steam that can open up with Vuze - most of the games looked like MMORPG type things, and I saw lots of manga-ey hairstyles which immediately turned me off. Might be other's cup of tea though ...

The Marathon Series (by Bungie)

http://source.bungie.org

This game is essentially the predecessor to Halo (there is even a couple of achievements in Halo games with marathon-related 'titles'), and is definitely worth checking out, it was released into the free domain by Bungie quite some time ago, just download Aleph One + the Marathon pack that you are interested in and you're all set.

If you want the key storyline, play Marathon, Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity (in that order), if you want something a little different then try Marathon Evil or Tempus Irae (both use modified Physics engines and new/modified weapons)

EDIT: Also regardless of if you're new to Marathon, or a returning player just for nostalgia, check out Marathon: Eternal X here [http://eternal.bungie.org/] It is one of, if not THE biggest fan-made Marathon project, containing 52 levels, so it will last you a while.

Why, thank you comrade.
Also, Merry Gear Solid.

Metal Gear Solid + Christmas = Holiday Espionage Action.

Oh, and it's sequel, Merry Gear Solid 2: Ghosts of Christmas Past.

http://www.superfundungeonrun.com/?page_id=256

It somehow makes sense.

It will take months(and several hundred deaths) to finish but it is worth it.

Check out A.D.O.M (you can't miss it, it's at the top of the list), possibly the best Rogue-alike I've ever played.

To tell the truth, I've never actually had the chance to play through either... Something I am going to remedy right now!

Also, Rogue Survivor.

EDIT: Holy monkey balls, it actually makes more sense than Metal Gear Solid 1.

An in what might just topple most of the other games listed here, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall and The Elder Scrolls: Arena.

Note: You will need DOSBox.

Prepare to kiss the outside of your house goodbye.

EDIT: For laughs, I should add LameDuke.

The beta release of Duke Nukem 3D. The title is self explanatory.
