TL;DW version: The Neo-Geo was built to push 2-D sprites around, and Doom needs something that can handle irregular 3-D (well, 2-1/2-D) surfaces. It could manage Wolfenstein, though.

……well, proof of proof be needed that humour is very subjective.


What has made me smile is I found a good use for my old gaming laptop. Some of its keys are broken - guess which xD - but otherwise it works fine but setting it up as a pseudo-workstation was a waste of time when my battle station is in the same room.

Enter, Playnite.

A simple piece of software that is meant to act as a sort of all in one library overlay for all your games services (Steam, BattleNET, EA, etc) with a console style interface. But what it is also works with is emulators and basic installed games - I’m gonna try my GoG copy of Torchlight 2 - like Pokémon Infinite Fusion.

There have been some challenges like figuring out how to force the emulator software into full screen and I’ll need to either get cheeky with regedit OR buy a mini wireless keyboard/mouse unit to wake the little shit up. But I’m feeling pretty good about being able to let my kids play the pre-Switch Pokémon games without entrusting them with my difficult to replace New 3DS XL.

And hey, saves on the e-waste.
