Here are some of mine.

1: Don´t run on the roof. Seriously.

2:Disguise is underrated, yet massively useful with the right knowhow. Few opponents see past the looks of their target.

3:Be vigilant, be wary, be alert!

That´s all i got. I know, great tips.

If you ever use the smoke bomb knockout trick YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE!

I've been waiting forever to vent that rage, finally somewhere relevant to say that!

Actually, I'm more successful hiding on the rooftops during Man Hunt when my team is the target. For whatever reason, I seem to die more often than in Wanted when trying to hide in the crowds. You know who is hunting you (at least after being killed once or witnessing a killing), so you can hide on the rooftops and run from anyone that comes up. People climbing on the rooftops are easily noticed. If you find a good spot (close to the edge of a roof so that the hunter's radar will stop providing aid before he gets to the building, but behind a structure like a chimney so you can't be easily seen), you can raise your survival odds substantially.

During Wanted, however, I stay off the rooftops unless I'm chasing or being chased. I walk - not run - everywhere and look for NPCs with my character model. Standing next to someone who looks just like you is a good way of giving yourself a 50/50 shot if someone hunting you sneaks up.

I also avoid choosing characters who stand out: Harlequin, Hellequin, the Priest (due to the light colored robes) and the Doctor come to mind especially. If your target is scanning the crowd, these characters are more easily noticed than the Courtesan (my main choice) or other, more normal-looking characters.

Manhunt:
Morph is all but essential on defense. But a good trick is to hide in a hay stack near a morph group. Once they use Templar vision, GTFO.
On offence, pay attention to who was in view when the compas lights up.If all else fails, check the hay.
Coordination beats individual skill 80% of the time.

more to come later

-The smoke bomb is your first and only line of defense against anyone who's got a contract on you. Use the crap out of that thing, and box your would-be killer about the head for good measure (and one less pursuer).

- Fast Walk. Use it. It saves (and ends) lives.

-Don't move from blend-to-blend in an open area. The AI doesn't do that, and you'll give yourself away.

-When there's nobody hunting you, you're at liberty to use whichever high-profile actions you want.

-Templar vision pretty much breaks the entire game. Use it liberally.

-Patience is a virtue as well as your ticket to the poll position. One incognito kill is worth four pounce kills.

-Whenever you act like you, you're seconds away from death.

-Above all else, remember this: without exception, your disguise is compromised. Your target knows exactly who you are and how to destroy you; he's just putting you on for his own sick reasons. At all times, remember that you have been outed, and everyone on the map knows exactly who and where you are. Every single character on the map wants to cut your throat-- but only a few have the nerve to do it. One tiny slip-up will send you to your doom. So be discreet.

Also, be sure to pick your favorite character. It's a psychological thing, trust me.

hmmmm

Morph is really useful when used right, often persuers spend to much time looking for who you were not who you are

Poisen can be hard to apply, but is the ultimate greifing tool, use it to anger your opponants so they dont play well

and most important

You will die...a lot....dont worry about it, have fun, remember if you get killed three times by say the doctor, it will be damn sweet when you finally kill him

Concerning stun, I've seen some people actually counter assassinations by throwing a smoke bomb at the perfect time, and then stunning their attackers. Can anyone explain at what point in time the bomb must be thrown?
It stops the kill animation from completing. This is why I was so pissed off, my charcter was just about to slit this guy's throat when the bomb stopped me short and the guy, unaffected by the smoke, punches me in the face.

If you are being chased, run close to npcs. They can sometimes throw of your pursuer, especially if you veer at the right time. Then they kill them and lose the contract, and you are home free.

Don't lose your nerve. It can be easy to want to beat some hasty tracks out of a crowd or away from a bench when that red warning pops up. Hold your ground, especially if you're using Morph (absolutely indispensable for the hunted in Manhunt). There's a very good chance your pursuer may be homing in on an NPC. There's even a chance (albeit a smaller one) that he/she will kill the NPC, get frustrated, and seek out a more mobile target elsewhere.

Breaking cover when in the presence of two or more pursuers is up to individual discretion. They may very well off NPCs and just wait for their contracts to reset. In that case, I usually delay the inevitable, stun one of them, and take the blade from the second (but that's me, and I'm a loser, so here's your grain of salt).

Never, ever forget the "accuracy" of the hunters' compass. It's not an exact pinpointing device, so use that to your advantage. Use morph on a crowd and hide in a nearby bush or cart of hay (something that's already been mentioned). If you have Morph and Disguise (and they're both of higher levels), morph the crowd and then use the disguise to lure an opponent to consider everyone else.

For hunters, try not to target the player you intend to assassinate. Not only does it alert them to how many players they have following them, but you lose the specificity. The other players will appear as the directional arrows around your compass, and will widen when you get closer, flatten when you're in range, and glow when they're in sight. On many occasions using that method has helped me pick out the player in a morphed crowd.

Don't just run around. You will lose the match. I've played so many games where all my teammates tore through the streets and scrambled about the rooftops. The targets see it a mile away, and it usually leaves me (read: that one single-speed teammate) with no targets to nab. It's detrimental to your personal score to gallop everywhere. I once finished a game with fewer kills than one of my teammates, yet I had the edge on him point-wise. Six hundred points for six high profile kills vs. fifteen hundred points for two low profile kills and whatever bonuses that entailed.

Try to avoid the cheap abilities and perks. This is me speaking subjectively, but some of them break the game entirely. The Hidden Gun, Firecrackers, and Templar Vision are especially loathsome. With all that said, I can promise I do not and will not be using those.

ok first to vent rage. stop just running to your target and trying to get an assassination quickly befor your assassin kills you. stalking your target from the rooftops is a legitimate stragety, but simply running like an idiot around the map kinda ruins the experience.

as for serious advice, really try to think like a computer controlled NPC. notice how often the computer glitches for 1/4 a second and try to mimic that. and hang around look alikes as often as you can. you would be surprised how often you can trick someone into assassinating the wrong target.

On some maps you almost have to run just to close distance, but don't run to kill the target. Get tolerably close, but then slow down. This is really something that could hurt you as well, as your enemy will see you better. Perhaps the best thing is to go to the rooftops where you can get an idea of where your target is, and see your enemy coming.

Another tip:

Trust your gut feelings.

I know this sounds like generic "Trust your feelings" advice, but seriously. Most of the time when you think something´s off, there´s probably something off. If you think there´s trouble ahead, run, or better yet, smoke bomb and check.

Probably, or I could have lagged, but I still feel its unfair to not be effected by your own smoke bombs.
Im pretty sure you just need to throw it before the animation starts to dodge a kill. Also it doesnt work on the kills where they jump on you.

JRiseley,
Yes that happens to me. It's super annoying. Your best bet is to carry smoke bombs and throw one when you see that.

They jump a massive distance because they've entered a high profile kill. Less points but you don't get away :)

im glad im not the only one who wants people to stay off the roof. It just lowers the points of everyone as once one person gets on the roof his pursuer will as well. Then his pursuer will, then the next, then the next. That out of the way, heres some tips.

-Disguise is key... sometimes. While morph is great for long term stakeouts, if your running away and break your pursuers line of sight, look for a group with your persona. Use disguise and blend into that crowd, they will almost always attack your duplicate rather than you.

-The power of a corner is amazing. So you have someone on your tale, and you dont know what to do? Well turn a sharp corner and wait. Stick close to the wall and ensure your very close to the edge without revealing yourself to your pursuer. Once he darts passed the corner theres a good chance he wont have time to slow down. Basically he'll run right by you, at that moment make sure your close and press B. (or circle for PS3 users I think.) You will usually stun them without a problem. This takes practice, but if your not feeling risky, do the same thing only throw a smoke bomb down right as they clear the corner. A quick slap to the ears will take your pursuer down.

-Avoid being obvious. So the person your hunting takes a sharp turn to the right? Walk on by the corner and keep going to avoid suspicion, then turn back around and walk down it again. If you think there onto you, blend into a talking crowd or sit on a bench. This is something NPC's do often, but Players do rarely. Do not do a B line for your target, be conspicuous for maximum points. You get bonuses for doing it in a crowd.

-Rooftops ruin the game. It turns it from "Assassin's Creed" to "Run Around and Die Creed."

-Eyes behind your head. Always look behind you every once in a while. Try to look for anyon who might be tailing you. If you think someone is onto you, shift your movement, if they follow, either run, or let them get close enough to throw a smoke bomb. Thats only if your feeling like an asshole though.

-Death is just a minor inconvenience. Dont allow your death's to irritate you. Respawning only takes a few seconds, and you dont lost any points for it.

-Chillin, maxin, relaxin all cool. If no one is following you and your target is near, sit on a bench or chat in a crowed, attack him or her once they get close, and you will get plenty of points. Even when you ARE being pursued however, dont get excited, your a smooth assassin.

- Slow the fuck down. This is obvious, but it seems some people just dont get it. When you run you very quickly become noticeable by your target. Remember, whenever you do high profile moves such as running, a large red arrow points at you. Your target may know you are there pursuer before you have even identified them.

so ive seen a lot of really good tips on here (esp. the one about turning a corner real fast when being followed for the stun) but there are deff some being left out
- Pay attention to how many ppl are hunting you, and for how LONG. figure out the average time it takes for someone to get to you(sorta a gut thing) and always keep that in mind (think of it as a timer counting down and pay attention to when ur hunters get killed, timer restarts), THIS HAS PAID OFF HUGE FOR ME, cant tell yall how many times i just got the feeling that my time was up, went down an ally and guess what, had some dude follow me down there as well and i smoked and stunned him. this is key as the longer someone is hunting you the better the chances are that they are fairly close and closing in. you can use this to your advantage tho. turn corners and put urself in a position where u will see someone coming for u, and if u have a smoke or mute ready, use it for the stun. always watch for people who move strait at you and put urself in a position where most npcs wont just walk towards u, comers or unpopulated areas work (and of course only if u have some defense ready)
- when you are hunting someone never be obvious and if your being hunted by 2 or more people be paranoid, doesnt matter how close u get if you get killed first and as soon as u make ur kill beat feet and gtfo (if 2 or more are on u and have been for a little while) u are about the be killed, no reason not to run.
- most people move around the map solo. if you see someone walking towards you solo, try to keep your distance, if they change direction SMOKE!
- the compass is an invaluable resourse! u can use it not only to find out the direction ur target is but much more importantly how far, and what direction they are traveling in (by paying close attention to how the compass moves, might have to stop for a sec to see but the slightest movement will speak volumes on where they are going). if you have a good idea of how the map is set up this can allow u to almost pinpoint where they are!!!
- CUT YOUR TARGET OFF! do not just follow the person around but understand the direction they are heading and the best possible way to intercept them. when u can use poison several times a game you know ur doing a good job at this.
- less running = less dieing, this has been stated a bunch before but i would like to point out that when u are running ur useally running to ur target and not paying attention to whose coming after you.
- in advance wanted take advantage of the fact that there isnt a indicator for whether ur up or down. climb up on a roof to hid for a min if you need to and most inexperienced players will kill the wrong person.
- mobile defense is better that stationary defense ie smoke and mute is better than morph and decoy... as long as u stay vigilant.
- some points is better than none. lots of ppl on here preach patients but if ur target is a squirly mf then u dont really have a choice. pretent there is a timer and it is slowly counting down, eventually someone else will get the kill if you dont.

It's a lag thing. Tecnically, once a kill animation has started, nothing will stop it. You have to use the SB before they start their kill animation. This is why it is good to be in a group of at least one more copy of yourself. That split second hesitation on their part to pic the right person is when you SB them, and them smack them in the face.

Also, I prefer mute to SB, because mute can be used in an offensive way as well. If you have no stealty way to approach your target, you can simply fast walk to them, hit mute when you are close and they cannot smoke or stun you. You may even have time to join their group and get points for a hiden kill as well. The only down side is he longer recharge time.
