So, it's the holiday season, I'm all snug in my bed with my annual "sore throat of making it impossible to get any sleep," and I'm peeved.
My brother and I have been sharing an XBox. We've been sharing things since we were infants, so you'd think we could handle this, but you'd be wrong.
He's asking for another Xbox for Christmas, apparently because he can't stand my "hoarding" the XBox, to play "old games," which he considers pointless (he thinks Mass Effect 2 is an old game). I've been playing the XBox for about 1-2 hours a day on Mon-Thurs, while he got it for all the time I wasn't using it, and on the weekends, he pretty much plays it for 8 hours a day. So, not only does he get a shitload of time with the thing, but we've also got a Wii and a PS3, so that he could literally fill every waking hour with video games if he wanted to. What's worse is that he only even plays two games. He wants an entirely new XBox because he wants to be able to play the same two games 24/7, without my interference. And he refuses to play a game if it wasn't released within a few months ago, meaning that he'll abandon these two games very soon. This is absolutely fucking ridiculous.
But, he's actually getting an XBox for Christmas. From my parents. I'm dumbfounded. I've tried to express to them why this is a bad idea, but they won't listen.
Now, am I crazy here, or is this an extremely bad idea? Along with the arguments listed above, and at the risk of sounding like your mother, isn't sharing the kind of skill needs to be developed?
To further add discussion value, talk about some situations where you saw what you thought was a kid getting spoiled.
In case anyone's wondering, the two games he plays are Madden NFL 11 and CoD: BO.
