My school does a thing every two years. Basically this thing is reminding us not to drink and drive. My school goes all out and so do the teachers, students, local police, local firemen, local mort, EMS, Lifelite(Helicopter EMS)... the list goes on and on. What my school does is sets up a scene outside with two vehicles that have crashed due to a drunk driver. Then the survivors crawl out and call police, fire, etc. Then the Grim Reaper shows up and take the two "Victims" souls. Of course this is all for pretend. Mind you that this is only to prove one point, not to drink and drive

I was wondering if anybody else had a school or just a community like this?

Not my school personally, but a town I lived in recently did that with their school... didn't help though, because two students actually did die from drunk driving on prom night.

Not quite but, we did have two kids (too young to drive actually) die violently in a bad car crash my freshman year.

I think this could be funny if presented in a cammy way. These kind of demonstrations are a little worrying if they are too serious, but drunk driving is a good cause.

Why the thread title?

Well when I was in grade 8 a while back, they did something like this for local township. Forget what it was called, but it was just a whole bunch of demonstrations and activities. I remember this one machine that spun a car around like it was flipping or something. Oh, and these goggles that degraded your vision, to imitate a drunken state. Then they made us try to cross fake train-tracks.
Ah, that was some funny times.

No, we usually have the real thing happen every couple of years. Doesn't do the trick in scaring ppl into sense...

We would place a mangled car or cars in front of a high school and have an officer hand out pamphlets and try to make it sound really really horrible and describe the death and all that.

When I worked Vice I got to be the one who hung outside of the high school. It usually shortly before said high school's prom and was unannounced.

I can say with some certainty I am pretty sure this is ineffective as the kids were more interested in how mangled the wreckage was than the message. Even after I posed to them the question "How would you get out of this?" and "See here? You'd be losing your legs"

Getting teenagers to not want to drink in this country is like asking the earth to stop spinning.
