Has anyone here bought Shattered Horizon yet? I'm making a shortlist of post-exam purchases to be made, and I need to know whether or not to cross this off the list. I have a rig that'll be able to handle it, but considering the rest of the games I want to buy, I'm not sure if my bank account can.

If you did purchase it, what are your thoughts?

I haven't but here [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/shatteredhorizon?part=rss] is the metacritic page. Despite average reviews the user rating is quite high and I'd trust them more.

I'm not sure if I wanna buy it either, it looks kinda repetitive but then again, you can't buy a game by its cover or something to that effect.

I did play it for a while, but it's not my thing...
The whole concept did amaze me, though. It's executed quite well. And floating around in space in "quiet mode", sneaking up on people and ripping a hole in their suit with your bayonet, killing them... or even shooting them from behind, blowing up their tank (called a "tank shot", just to be original o_O ), etc. etc. help keep the gameplay fun, and help keep you immersed in the game.

However,
I'm not playing it any more. Don't get me wrong, it is fun, especially to start off with. And I can see how it could very easily become the next "hardcore" (to use such a term :S ), LAN and/or competitive game...
But...
I like me some customization, which this game lacks. A lot.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong... but as far as I could tell, customization in this game goes only so far as choosing which type of grenade to use, or which team to go on.

(For those who might not know) Everyone uses the same gun (which makes sense, don't get me wrong. I don't expect there to be a myriad of choices for guns that shoot in space. But when you zoom in it works like a sniper too, so... make of that what you will). Everyone moves the same speed, has the same firepower...
Which works with the whole "realism" concept...

But it seems to me that this is a game that some people will absolutely love (like my older brother), or might find a little bland after the initial "OMGI'MINSPACE!" wears off.

Personally, if I had the choice, I wouldn't buy it again. But keep in mind, that's just my personal opinion, and this game does have a lot of potential.

Look at some trailers of the gameplay online. Look at a lot of them.
And if it still looks fun, why not get it? :)

Hope this helped :S ...

I trust the Escapist to do my decision-making for me! :) [/sarcasm]

Thanks for the link though. I'm not sure I'll end up buying it though. While the mechanic looks interesting, it just another shooter to marvel over for about a day or two and then get lost in my list of Steam games. If some of my friends buy it, I might get it too, but for the moment my list becomes ever smaller.

I, too, want this game. It looks, heh, quite nice. I'm assuming (from the reviews and suchlike) that it's a bit like Team Fortress 2, but in space!. And TF2 is something that I really dig, man.

But for me anyway, once it's at the magical price of $20, I'm always, always really tempted to get it. And right now, Horizon is $20... Damn it.

Also, I should add that my PC is powerful enough to run the thing like a champ.
