It's always nice to see the Internet community get behind something. *rollseyes* How did they not see it coming? Surely someone in marketing would have twigged. So Shell launched their new "Let's Go" campaign; a quote from their site:
That's why we're launching a new campaign (deadline this Thursday!), from which the best ads will be printed and posted in strategic locations worldwide.
....
So take a moment to add your own slogan to our beautiful new collection of images. The next place you see it might be your own rearview mirror.
Anyway, click this link [http://arcticready.com/social/gallery?sort_by=value&sort_order=DESC&page=1] while it's still hot, no telling how long it will last. Some of them are particularly brilliant. My personal favourites so far:

- Sums up the campaign perfectly [http://arcticready.com/social/2336469-one-of-these-things-doesnt-belong-here]
- Genius, and heartbreaking [http://arcticready.com/social/9739058-mom]
- Very true [http://arcticready.com/social/6659262-dear-shell-moderator-ask-not-for-whom-th]
- Brilliant use of memes [http://arcticready.com/social/4760425-its-a-trap]
- Pure class [http://arcticready.com/social/2111852-we-still-havent-noticed-we-are-being-tro]

[EDIT]Just realised from Attercap that this is actually a fake, albeit a brilliant and highly amusing, if poignant one. Thanks for pointing that out.[/EDIT]

This made my day, thank you.

Please I beg somebody, save this. Immortalize it forever using the internet.
Silver Lining for Shell: At least now they know what people REALLY think.
Of course they probably won't listen and just chalk it up to Greenpeace being themselves.

This is great stuff, but it was actually set up by Greenpeace and not Shell. It's not the first time Greenpeace has trolled Shell, either. The site was set up by Yes Lab, who have done some similar sites in the past: http://www.yeslab.org/museum

I like their message, but I have to say their methods are awful. Lying to the public isn't OK whoever does it.

It does seem to have fooled a lot of people, but I see the campaign as more of a spoof than a lie--sort of like the fake commercials on sketch comedy shows like SNL, Kids in the Hall, or SCTV. Reading the "About Shell" or "Just for Kids" page should really tweak any user to the fact that it's so over the top it can't be real.

I get where you're coming from, though. A lot of people have been suckered into thinking it's truly Shell--which is basically the same level of lie that politicians use in their smear campaigns of their opponents when they take pieces history or speeches out of context. I guess I just tend to give more leeway when the falsehood is also funny.
