Wow, way to overreact.

I doubt the vibes between Watson and Holmes will ever get to the point of, say, Alexander, but I rather enjoyed their 'old married couple' bickering. I hope that doesn't get axed just to keep this paranoid bint happy.

Aw come on. They're not gonna change an established characters sexuality because Downey jr made a joke. Jeez, what an over-reaction. Just because a guy and a girl can never be just friends in a movie doesn't mean all the close male friends are gay. Anyone who thinks that has been reading way too much fan fiction.

It is Hollywood though - I suppose Holmes and Watson would make out if they got paid enough, and it meant more people would see the movie. Thinking about it, controversy worked well for MW2...

huh. Maybe this whole thing was a publicity stunt!

That could just call it Schmerlock Holes, then they wouldn't need to worry about copyright.

I think that woman takes this a bit too seriously.

I'm loving this. Simply because of all the idiotic drama. All I'm going to say is if you think it's homophobic to not like the idea of a gay Holmes/Watson. You're a fuckwit. Night all.

Considering the porn industry, I'm fairly sure that one will already have been taken...

How can charactres 'secretly' be gay, unless the writer writes it?

I wonder who would pitch and who would catch?

Could be a character choice by the actors.

And Holmes is definitely the top

...Of course people are saying there's homoerotic subtext. We're talking about two men who live together and, apart from Watson's rarely-mentioned and very short-lived marriage, aren't very interested in women (Holmes isn't, anyway). But seriously, if you read the original stories, there is nothing that suggests any relationship other than close friendship between the two.

Eh, the real Holmes was pretty much sexless. All he cared about were mysteries, violins, and cocaine. Also, who has the rights? Isn't it public domain already?

Seriously? I'm a huge fan of the books and won't see this movie because it looks to treat them pretty lightly. So it's okay that Downey can make Holmes a brawler when in canon he was a passifist, but inserting gay subtext (some of which might already be there if you talk to some literary scholars) crosses the line?

*facepalm*
Holmes was an accomplished boxer in the books, so its all good. But yeah, no gay holmes please. He's british, a bachelor, and lives with another unmarried man, thats gay enough

Really? People can suggest Batman and Robin are gay, but the very characters they're based on? Oh no...

Would it really change anything? Would announcing their sexuality suddenly make them flaming gays doing the nasty every five seconds? Did learning about DUmbledore change how you felt about the Harry Potter series?

What is art but interpreting a story?

If you do not care for it, Don't watch it! Or dare I say it, READ THE BOOK!

As with all "revelations" of this nature, if they said nothing, no one would've batted an eye.

I mean they are British after all.

I love the fact that so many people here are commenting on a movie they have not seen, just because you are guessing it is so different from books that you'll hate it. If it's so different from the books, just mentally change the names of the characters and make it a new movie! It worked for Indiana Jones.

I'm sorry, but I have to refer to canon, here, withthe help of the Wikipedia article [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Holmes]. In the first case, a Study in Scarlet, Watson assesses Holmes and if anything understates his abilities. Number 11 on that list: Is an expert singlestick player, boxer and swordsman. This is hardly a Pacifist.

The Fist Fighting referred to in the movie is most obvious in The Sign of Four, where Holmes introduces himself "The amateur who fought three rounds with you at Alison's rooms on the night of your benefit four years back." McMurdo responds by saying, "Ah, you're one that has wasted your gifts, you have! You might have aimed high, if you had joined the fancy."

If they did suddenly make him homosexual, it would destroy Holmes...
The great detective (Not Great Mouse Detective, that was Basil) would be ridiculed...

However, I wouldn't argue if they decided to introduce Arsene Lupin into a film with Holmes :3
If only we could make a time traveling idea with Lupin III.
OT: Um...I think that all of the meathead, moronic, small brained movie goers that populate the world these days would be severely angered over any gay subtext placed in their ACTION MOVIE WITH THE EXPLOSIONS THAT GO BOOM!
The point I'm trying to make is, it'd be like Marvel saying "If in Iron Man 3 Tony Stark becomes a nazi who wants to kill all Jews, we are taking the rights of this film away from you." I seriously don't think anyone has to "worry" about any homo-erotic subtext appearing in Holmes 2.
I just want to say, that your avatar is awesome.

Honestly though, I have no problem with him being gay. There is nothing wrong with it.
