Hey guys, I am not quite sure if there exactly was a thread about this before, my english isn't that good too.

Anyways, I guess most of you already tried smoking a so-called shisha, or water pipe.
So, what's your opinion about them? Is it dangerous to smoke pipe? Is it popular in your country?

In Austria it is kinda popular to smoke shisha, atleast in my generation.

(As I said my english isn't that good, I'm very sorry.)

What is shisha? But I smoke a pipe. Along with my friend. We sit outside our dorm halls in lawn chairs reading and smoking pipes.

Actually we consider shishas to be pretty safe, especially compared to smoking. For anyone who doesn't know what a shisha is, he means those bong-like things you put the water in and smoke tobacco in.

And don't worry, your English is very good :)

Can someone explain to me what shisha is?

To answer you questions, I don't know what a shisha is. I think smoking is lame, but to each his own, and I have no clue if its popular in America.

In my country you can order Shisha off the menu in restaurants, so I guess it's popular, anyway I've never tried it myself, don't really see the appeal of inhaling smoke.

Well, I tried it a few times and it was enjoyable (especially with a few rather alternative girls around), however, our prof told us that shishas are actually just as dangerous as other forms of smoking (the water does nothing). In a way, it's even worse, because younger people try it and there's a nice variety of "tasty" tobacco for it that even the kids like! Yummy.

I'm sorry not to explain what a shisha is, it's just the same as a water pipe. Anyways over here it's legal to buy with tobacco when you're atleast at the age of 16, like cigarettes.

Note: I don't smoke cigarettes, by the way, only shisha sometimes.

For everyone who was asking, this is a water pipe.

I like it, there are a couple bars in town that have it and I usually go there once a week with my dad and a friend. It's good to relax and also tastes good (I hate the smell of cigarettes).

As for it being dangerous, I did a quick search in Pubmed about this subject and the general consensus is that it has harmful products, but far less than cigarettes. Yes, I have too much free time.

I tried it, but not with drugs - flavored smoke. It's good I guess, but some years later I read about the negative health effects and decided it's not worth it.

Ha, sorry, I wasn't trying to correct you per se. It's just that quoting that bit sort of helped to put the article in context without me introducing it too much. Which, now I've had to explain it all, seems a bit pointless... :S

I think you're think of a hooka, because shisha is thing you smoke out of a hooka.

But I've tried it and it's not bad,but I wouldn't do it regularly.

For those who don't know shisha is a blend of tobacco(they also make herbal shisha), molasis, and fruit.

Hmm, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.138473.3112117>I think I just answered this question...

I have a hookah and smoke flavored tobacco out of it from time to time.

Not at all, I'd rather be corrected than give someone bullshit information :)

There is no real health concerns when smoking a Hookah, as we know them, over any other method of smoking. The health concerns come from smoking, period, and nothing more as you are taking burning plant matter into your lungs. Personally I think it is the better way to smoke, as the smoke isn't as harsh on your throat, having been water cooled a little bit.

There are also some beautiful hookahs out there. I saw this beauty being used on the streets of Pittsburg earlier this year and when I settle down will have to get one for myself:
http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-2808-leila-1-hose-portable-hookah.html

Not only did it perform extremely well for a portable Hookah but it also looked pretty with the light going through the bubbling water. Don't know what he was smoking through it, wasn't illegal but did make a nice taste in the throat, but was a surprise seeing it being used in public as the hookah tends to be related to that of illegal drug consumption.
