Shivers down your spine

Shivers down your spine, Goosebumps, call it what you will. Now we all know what the phrases mean, but what elicits this kind of emotional response from you?

Maybe its an inspirational speech, a moment of film or sport, or part of a song. Whatever it is, your hairs stand on end, your spine tingles - you feel a kind of emotional climax, maybe euphoria, and perhaps even a tear (of the manly Will Smith variety) forms in your eye...

To set the ball rolling, here's a couple from me.

This song, a great example of a cover. Tender, almost ethereal, it speaks to me more than the original. Sad, lonely but still uplifting. A belter.

Secondly this; I know many of you here are not sports fans so this may be wasted upon some, and that's fair enough. However, if you understand the context, this is a moment of magic, and an outstanding example of the raw emotion and joy that sport can bring to so many people, in a split second. Truly spine-tingling.
Just imagine, your team has done nothing of note for around 40 years. For nearly half a century it has been mediocre at best, an object of ridicule at worst. Its nearest and most bitter rivals have enjoyed success after success, rubbing it in every step of the way.
But now, at last, this team has a chance for glory, a chance to wipe away the dissapointments of previous decades. Against expectations, they close the gap on their rivals towards the end of the season. The final game of the season will be the moment of truth, all they need to do is defeat a struggling side and the moment the fans have been waiting for, for so long, will arrive. However things do not go as planned. The team is loosing. Yet again, they have built everyone up, only to let them down. They have thrown their chance away. A better chance may never come again - maybe they are destined for failure after all - maybe it was too much to hope for. Their rivals have won their corresponding game, and will go on to win the title, bringing more misery in their wake.
Then in the final minute of the game when all seems lost, this happens, and 46,000 people present at the match and thousands more across the country, at home and in pubs, go absolutely fucking mad.

So, that's me... what sets off your cutis anserina?

Watching the somewhat tedious pacing of Season 3 was worth it.

I want to watch this so damn bad, but I must restrain myself.

Been a bit late to the Boardwalk party and only just got to grips with the first Season, but judging from what I've seen so far, Harrow looks like one brilliantly fucked up guy.

Yeah he is, but he is still lovable and sympathetic. He really develops in Season 2 and in the last episode of Season 3, you won't be disappointed with this fight.

This more tickles me than gives me shivers but I think it still applies.

A thousand times, Yes! As Shepard emerges from the flaming wreckage to stand tall among the broken spire and lens flare! probably one of the best moments out of the trilogy, and that's saying something.

I remember watching that game. It had everything. Goals, good football, surprises, brutality and above all DRAMA. Absolutely fucking insane.
Exactly. If you had to choose a match to demonstrate why football is the best sport evar, that one would be up there. Although it was a fantastic 'advert for the game' as they say here in England, I picked it rather more for the emotional reaction, the meaning that that moment had for the City fans, and as you rightly said the sheer fucking drama of it all.

Although I think fans of nearly every other team in the League were happy too, if only because they prevented the scum getting their hands on the trophy again.

Dude, I was fucking jumping around with joy and I'm not even a ManCity fan. In fact, I kinda dislike the club. Not intensely, but I wouldn't call myself the biggest fan either.

I wouldn't go so far to call ManUnited "the scum", but fuck those guys. I'll celebrate ManCity getting the trophy over them any day.
Haha glad to hear it mate! It really was a fantastic occasion, never to be seen again, made all the sweeter given City's lack of recent success.

I realise my opinion of Man Utd may be a bit strong... My old man is a City fan, so hating them is second nature really.

Why the hate for Manchester United? I'm not from Europe so I have no idea how things are.

From the point of view of a Manchester City fan, it's fairly obvious. Both teams come from the same city, so a traditional rivalry already existed. Utd are far more successful, so this has worstened the hatred felt towards them by City fans, as Utd fans have of course enjoyed reminding City of this for the last couple of decades. Now City have more money, the rivalry has taken a new twist, as they can afford the players and staff required to equal, and in the case of last season, better the efforts of Utd.

For other English fans of other clubs, Utd are generally disliked. Their fans are viewed as arrogant, having poor knowledge of the game, and being glory hunters. The team is perceived to be given special treatment by referees and officials, and their relatively recent dominance is cause frustration and probably jealousy among the fans of less successful clubs.

There's a plethora of reasons really, but those are some of the main ones.

Whenever I find a nubile person with a supple body, and then I stare. Oh the fantasies I can come up with, just before they become a reality! And how can I forget the times where I've almost climaxed?

The ending of American History X, mostly his long speech always gives me a chill. The message it gives, and the truth behind it all. It's amazing. Spoiled because it's the end of the movie.

I know it's cheesy, but the "I had a dream" speech by Martin Luther King has to be the one. Still magical after all these years.

Game-related? Has to be the boss battle with G, A & F on the Goldoba in Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. It's just such an epic moment, both story- and gameplay-wise.
