I thought they changed it into Shotgun 2: Total War and tried to rip-off Call of Duty.
I can't describe how facepalm-inducingly stupid that sounds, unless it's a joke. Do you have any idea how long these people have been making Total War games?

What? The new name is kind hard to say.
I mean, they're putting the subtitle first now.

Hmmm. Oh well, I guess.

This makes sense and should have started with Rome.

Total War is the franchise name.
Shogun is the period/era/people involved.

Total War: Rome
Total War: Medieval 2
Total War: Empire

i don't think it sounds as good, but it makes more sense.

i really liked the traditional total war naming.
I always thought that basically you could write anything and just add total war to make it a total war game. like Milk and Cookies: Total War.
French Heroism in WWII: Total War
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II: Rise of the Witch-king: Total War

see, works every time

I'd say the name was a relatively minor part of the game...
I would disagree, the "Total War" is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of large scale RTS games. I normally wont go near an RTS unless it's made by the TW people.

Personally I think Total War is an awful title, because it always calls Joseph Goebbles ugly face into my mind, screaming about "totaler Krieg". ^^

So may be this change was a bit missplaced.
WOLLT IHR DEN TOTALEN KRIEG

Thanks man, now I can never play a Total War game without hearing that one.

Also: this title change is dumb. It's still awkward as fuck, but now in a different way than the other Total Wars. Why bother at all?

I think they should change it again. Here some sugestions:
Total Shogun, War 2
Total war 2 shogun
War Shogun 2 total

Less awkward? How? I mean, I could see if it was originally "Shogun 2: Total War - Takeda Shingen Really Love-Hates That Uesugi Guy In A Bad Bromance Kind Of Way And Nobunaga's Still An Arse" or something, but flipping it around just seems like a waste of time.

I was hoping, now I don't have to. :D

Saying something like that in the context of Call of Duty makes me want to smash things, because I've heard people say things like that seriously. I've heard halo fans say that Dawn of War II won't sell at all because it coincided with the release of Halo Wars.

Meh I liked the first one better. How about Shogun Total War2loo. Could add some units from napoleon and have your general change into an angry frenchman when you complete prestige mode.

I don't care. I'm still calling it Shogun 2: Total War. Really the Total war should be a subtitle not part of the actual title. That would fix everything by itself and the name remains the same. Not like anyone actually says "Im gonna go play me some Medieval 2: Total War later...", it's always "I'm gonna play Medieval 2..."
