Now let me give a quick intro, I am by no means an avid Total War player, my first was Rome, Which I play to this day, then came Empire, and although I loved the naval battles, the main game itself ... I just didn't get along with 95% of the game being gun powder units, I loved the meelé madness of Rome, it was just more satisfying seeing 80 odd men smash into each other.

So when I learned of CA going back to it's roots, away from all this gun powder Persian trickery, I was really excited, I couldn't wait, I followed the game avidly, loving the sound of it.Then the demo came out, which I played the crap out of, especially the historical battle (Sekigahara), which pretty much sold me completely.

So it was without hesitation I bought it off Steam, and waited for it to download, when it had however.. Well it's not to say I didn't immediately think it was disappointment, Total war games take time, but, it's been three days now, and I just really don't have an urge to play it, I found it fairly, well, boring. I don't know what it is, I can;t put my finger on it, it looks gorgeous, it plays smoother, and I can tell it's a GOOD game. But I'm not enjoying it. I would rather return to my legions than go back on it, I don't know.

Guess what I'm asking is, if you've played it, what are your thoughts? How does it compare to previous iterations of the series? Do you love it? Hate it? "meh" it? Share :)

tl;dr How you finding it?

My copy doesn't work. The demo worked perfect, but the full game won't even load. It loads the opening loading screen, then reboots my computer. Tis quite aggravating to say the least.

I'm quite happy with Rome for now, currently my favorite in the series (and the first one in the series i played), i really couldn't get into Empire with all the guns, didn't seem Total War-ish to me.

Shogun seems to just be a more HD Rome to me, i'll probably pick it up if it goes on a sale, i just don't think that $90 for a slightly better version of what i have is too much.

I like Shogun 2 quite a bit actually. Some friends and I started one of those online campaigns, and it's very entertaining to be able to critique each other's campaign strategies. That being said, I will agree with someone who says that there's something "off" about this one. But I still enjoy it, and I find it's well worth my $50.
