Uhhh, most bullets move faster then sound. Even if it doesn't, the monkey will still have next to no time to react.

I would airstrike the *****.

But in all honesty, just aim at the chest. You're going to hit SOMETHING. Then go finish it off. If you only have one bullet then just stomp on it or something. He's got a bullet in him. Geeze.

this is why most school questions are complete shit. why can't i just shoot his chest? why would a monkey let me get as close as the next tree? isn't poaching illegal? why would i need to kill a monkey? cant i climb down and shoot it from under?

Speaking for myself, most of elementary, most of junior high, and just about all of high school were complete and utter wastes of time for me. They made us do legions of these stupid ass "You fire a canon at 43 degrees with negligible wind resistance off a mountain at 400 meters off the ground when will it hit the ground" shit in AP physics, and guess what. It did jack SHIT. I forgot everything by the time I entered college, and they didn't accept my AP credit for the class so I had to take it again.

In fact only real thing it did for me was get me INTO the colleges. Utter stupidity. If you're intelligent, get a GED, go to a junior college, excel your first 2 years and try to transfer. Not always the best options, but if you go to a complete shit high school like mine, where there were a total of about 4 or 5 AP's available, as opposed to the neighboring school that had like a total of 18 you could take, don't bother.

I'd aim for his mouth. If there is noticeable bullet drop, it'll take him in the neck, scoring decapitation if a big enough caliber/small enough monkey. Or if the monkey's hanging upside-down, from his tail, it'll pop his head. As far as ethical questions, I would definitely shoot a chimp. Those fuckers make a habit out of eating HUMAN BABY BRAINS.

Depends on the distance between trees and the rifle. If it were like most modern day assault rifles, they have an average bullet velocity of about 3000ft/s (or 950m/s for you Euros), so if I were within a tenth of a mile or less I would just aim in center mass of the head. The further away I would aim lower on the head. About every 500ft I'd aim an inch lower.

Just my guess.
I agree with whatever this guy just said. He seems to know what he's talking about.

Between it's eyes, the bullet and the monkey frop at the same rate. we tried it in college except with a ball bearing and a tin can
Wrong, the time it takes for the sound waves to reach the monkey will make up most all of the bullets travel time. No bullets travel slow enough for the monkey to make any meaningful drop. Compensating for the bullets fall is the only necessary step.

If you wanted to get people to realize the physics concept you are talking about you might want to re-phrase the question. Such as, "the muzzle flash of the gun will make the monkey fall out of the tree immediately". That would work better as the lag of a flash of light is negligible at these speeds and distances.
You misunderstood. The bullet drops too

You missed my point, the bullet drops and the monkey drops. But the monkey doesn't start dropping until the bullet is almost there.

Soooo... monkey reaction time has come into play now, has it?

No, lets even assume the monkey will start falling the very moment he hears the sound.

When the sound wave reaches the monkey the bullet will be very very close, leaving the monkey almost no time to fall.
{Gun}------------------------------------------------------------{bullet}----{soundwave}{monkey}
