Shop at GameStop, Become a Borderlands 2 NPC

GameStop is sending one of its customers to Texas to be mo-capped for an appearance in Borderlands 2 DLC.

Psst. Hey, kid. Wanna be in a videogame? Then maybe it's time to go shopping at your local GameStop, not because I have any particular interest in where you buy your videogames but because a very cool contest is currently underway and all you have to do to enter is go there and buy the stuff you were going to buy anyway.

The winner of the contest will be given a trip for two to the Gearbox studio in Texas to meet the Borderlands 2 development team and be motion-captured for an appearance as an NPC in a future DLC release. The prize also includes accommodations for two nights, $500 in walking-around money and a whole bunch of Borderlands 2 swag. There are a couple catches, of course: If you want to play, you have to be a PowerUp Rewards member and you have to be at least 18 years old and live in the U.S.

The contest runs until September 29, and you can enter up to 17 times per day by buying stuff, cooking off loyalty points or even taking the classic "no purchase necessary" route with a postcard and a stamp. (You do know what those are, right?) Full contest rules and other such relevant details can be had at poweruprewards.com [http://www.poweruprewards.com/PUR/Enter/EpicRewardSep12].

Borderlands 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Borderlands-2-Xbox-360/dp/B0050SYK44/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347293765&sr=8-1&keywords=Borderlands+2], by the way, comes out on September 18 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Sounds cool. Also saw the gun-naming promotion.

However I'm a bit inclined to be angry since, GameStop, a popular, yet quite hated company, gets all the promotions. Makes sense, but it's somewhat annoying.

I'm also a bit unhappy that it's only GameStop, therefore only America.
You're probably thinking "Well...Borderlands is made in America"
And Fable 3 was made within a single bus journey from me, didn't stop GameStop getting all the exclusive shit. At least this is more substantial so it makes sense.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

oh what the hell. I've got a few thousand points sitting around I never use, I might as well give it a shot.

Plus I must be in some sort of advantage being already in Texas... probably not.

So if the contest ends Sep 29 (and the game is released the 19th) are they gonna add the winner as part of a DLC/update? *scratches head*

Would be awesome if I had the cash to shop at Gamestop. Though instead of most of those prizes, can I just acquire one of their testing computers? I could use a new desktop.

Here you go.

Borderlands 2 is getting some serious promotions left and right AND it's one of the greatly anticipated upcoming games. If this doesn't get stellar sales, than all marketing can go stuff itself for being proven useless.

Sounds interesting enough, but it's unlikely I'll buy anything there this month (unless I can pony up the money for Pokemon Black 2).

I get more and more annoyed at the EU gamers who complain about anything that comes only to the States. I'm pretty sure you've got a lot of stuff that the States don't get so, in the end, I think it comes out fair. (Disclaimer: I haven't researched the subject all too much, just from various reports.)

Anyway, I'm about as likely to get this opportunity as someone in Europe. Living in a small state squashed by other, much more important states does get in the way (ie Vermont). Seriously, politics don't even matter here because it's pretty easy to figure out how we'll vote as a State.

Just saying, I don't care. Could go without all this. And I don't want to be motion captured, honestly. Having my whole body mapped out by a computer? Meh...

Damn it.

Can we hold the DLC off for another 2 years when I'm 18 and possibly living in America?

for the record, most borderland npcs usually end up horribly dead somehow, if not terminally insane, so the prize will probably result in your virtual likeness getting tossed off a cliff or something.

How about a complaint from someone from neither of those regions then?

I've always wanted to be in a game! Why oh why is it only USA and Gamestop? I'm in New Zealand, and the closest we get is good old EB Games, which of course we means we never get any promotions ever. Not that I'd win regardless, but at least the opportunity is there for you. Borderlands could do with some awesome Kiwiness, right?

Captcha: "Minty fresh." That's right, it would be so mint and fresh.

Ehh...you an get a PowerUp Rewards card for free (They'll offer you the $15 one, though), and I do buy there a lot. I am quite addicted to games at this point in my life. And I do have the points to buy an entry...but it's such a long shot. I'd rather get a $5 discount coupon instead.

Also, not a big fan of Borderlands.

Kiwi here as well, we never seem to get any gaming promotions remotely like this. We usually even get screwed over with collector editions, over pricing and later release times. Yet we don't even get the chances for things like this too.

I used to work at The Gamesman before EB/Gamestop bought out the company, I hated their business practices so I left, but at least we ran our own competitions. We even had gaming events at our store from time to time, was great.

But overall, we get screwed constantly. We pay way more, but get the same or less a lot of the time.
