Should Facebook Be Worried?

I can see Google making it pretty easily. I mean, Facebook was once really private and you couldn't do anything if you weren't in a college. Then, it eventually became enormous and Myspace went the way of the dodo. Other companies have tried to compete like Bebo and whatever else is out there, but so far nothing's stuck. All it'll take is that one site that people think is trendy to go to and soon everyone else will follow to either A.)Look like part of the cool crowd or B)Avoid being left alone on a deserted wasteland.

Google can't beat Facebook with this generation.

If everyone has already established themselves on Facebook and they have all their friends together and all their photos why would they go go through the trouble of reestablishing all that all over again on an entirely new system which many of their friends may not even be a part of.

A couple years before Facebook, people used Myspace. You'd find it funny how quickly people will switch given to whatever the current trend is.

Was MySpace ever as popular as Faebook is? (I honestly don't know)

As long as the new Google site has PROPERLY WORKING CHAT I am on board *grumbles* Don't see why its so hard for Facebook to make a chat system that actually works.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't know. Then again, Myspace didn't have the advantages that Facebook has today, namely Social Gaming. While they have those now, its a tad too late to save the sinking ship.

I shall not hush, and the US Government certainly is all powerful, within the United States. And Google is based in the US. Think what you like, but the laws are written so convolutedly complex that the Government could shut them down if they so chose, and imprison any of the executives in the process.

About that. If you have enough money and power, wouldn't it be easier to buy an island and set up your own country? And then you could put all your servers sitting there under a coconut tree right by the beach...

O wait, i can see at least two problems with that:
1- monkeys running trough the servers, not a good idea
2- if they create a separate nation (Googletopia) that makes it possible to be invaded and declared war by any given country, like for example the US.

Google plays to win. Thats why they are gonna be my favorite future dictators of the world.

They did? But it was still in closed beta! how could I use it if I didn't have a way to get in? Google Wave sounded pretty cool (especially if I had I any friends to use it with, but that's beside the point) Too bad they didn't advertise it anywhere; noone knew about the whole thing.

It's been open for a long while now. Do you want an invite code or something?

And really, the problem with Google Wave was that Google invented the future too early. Imagine someone invented a digital music player (like an iPod) back in the 70s. Nobody would know what to do with it, right?

Nobody knew what to do with it, so it was tossed aside as something that wasn't useful. I think the same thing's happened to Wave. It's the future of email and documents, but nobody thinks it's useful right now, so it's not being picked up as a technology. All of those bits and pieces that Wave uses, like collaborative editing and seeing real-time changes, are awesome, but there isn't a "killer app" that has been invented to use them. Wave itself is just a gimmick. Once these tools that have been invented find a use, someone will build something awesome with them and Wave will be like the 70s music player.

Facebook is so underwhelming. I don't know how it got as popular as it is. It does absolutely nothing that would make me consider hanging around. At least, not on its own. The only time I ever spent a decent amount of time on that site was in that dark period in which I was involved with the mob. Er, Mafia Wars.

I reckon Google could do a LOT better. Go Google! Try to do womething great. I'll be cheering you on. Just try not to get overambitious.
