I've been considering buying one for a while. Maybe DS, maybe DS Lite, or perhaps even that big red thing. So I wonder. Is it worth it? I hear there are some games for it that are good, not to mention it would be cool to game on the go. While we're at it, if I do buy one; which one would you recomend? What games are a must? I could need this advice. Please fellow escapists, share your wisdom.

*Edit*
As for types of games I like. Puzzles, rpg's, some kiddy games. I really play just about anything

Thanks for all the good advice guys! Much appreciated.

The DS library is great. If you did get a ds get the lite version. No use forking out the money for the dsi. The lite version is also ridiculously cheap right now.

Whats putting you off about the 3DS?

Yeah I lean towards DS Lite.

What's putting me off about 3DS is mostly the price vs what I get. The big gimmick with it is the 3D, which I'm pretty Meh to. Then again, I have a hard time getting the 3d effect due to a slight exotropia. I really just feel it costs more than it gives.

I would definitely buy a DS if I were you,

as a more 'hardcore' gamer I tend to lean away from the Wii because it's library isn't very good.

However the DS library is fantastic, Nintendo really shines in the handhelds department.

Definitely get a DS Lite, as the gba slot pretty much doubles its already massive library.
In terms of games, there a a lot to choose from. Pokemon and scribblenaughts are both really great games, despite the fact that everyone seems to think that they're too "kiddish" or whatever.

DSlite if you want GBA games, DSi if you want DSi ware (and really only three games are good enough if you ask me)

I'd get a 3DS. You get all the selection of a DS, plus the awesomeness of the 3DS'... Library that doesn't exist yet. /sad.

I'd go for the DSi. I personally can't stand the DS Lite's mushy buttons, but thankfully the DSi went back to the more clicky buttons of the regular DS. I don't see the GBA slot as being a huge advantage anymore either. If you don't already have a GBA game collection, you aren't going to be picking up a whole lot of games easily. Plus, you'll too be busy building up a DS collection to worry about building up a GBA collection as well. And if you do already have a GBA collection, chances are you also already have something to play those games on. I also just find playing GBA games on the DS (either model that plays them) to be quite uncomfortable.

I can't say much about what games to get; you didn't tell us what kinds of games you like.

Can't go wrong with a DSlite, I've had mine for years and there's still stuff I haven't gotten around to playing yet. Also you can play GBA games too and those are really cheap nowadays.

Yes, the DS is a great buy, especially if you still love your Mario and Zelda games but can't stand the Wii (like me). Also the Pokemon games and the occasional gem like "The World Ends with You." Even a casual game like Tetris or something will keep you entertained at the occasional boring location.

And like everyone's sort of already said, just get an original or a lite. The DSi isn't worth its camera and the Dsi XL is, well, I don't even know why it exists honestly.

However, eventually Nintendo will make us all upgrade to 3DS's but by then I'm sure it will be cheaper. Just wait for a better 3D lineup and a price drop on it if you feel so inclined.

Yes, buy a DS.
