Hello ladies and gents,Although i love my xbox 360 dearly, even though it has shat itself on occasion. I am wondering if I should backtrack and pick up a PS2, I like JRPGS and the god of war games look neat. Just wondering if you guys think its a good idea? Ive always been an xbox guy but any particular game references or ideas are warmly received.

Go for it. It's affordable, what with being last gen, and has one of the best game libraries available right now for the best prices. God of War, Metal Gear Solid I through III ($30 US for all three), a huge amount of RPGs (Final Fantasy being the best known), and that's just the beginning! And with games still being made for the bloody thing, you really can't go wrong with purchasing a PS2.

Here's a short list of games you may want to pick up if you get a PS2:

Psychonauts
Shadow of the Colossus
Okami
Final Fantasy 10
God of War (2)
Metal Gear Solid
Disgaea
GTA (III, Vice City, San Andreas)

There are many others, but those are the ones that come to mind right now. Hope that helps.

Yes, get it. There's a reason they still sell it well into the new generation. It's awesome. It has a huuuuuuge library of awesome games. There are tons you can still get anywhere, and with a little searching there are some hidden gems/rare titles that need to be played by everyone.

Plus, price-wise, it's in impulse-buy territory. I still need to get a call-back on the financing for my PS3.

PS2 was great. it may yet win this generations console wars. which would prove that full 1080 graphics dont mean shit unless you make them pretty.

Buy it. And don't forget to look into the fantastic PS1 RPGs, too. I'm not talking about Final Fantasy. Just peek around.

Also to add to this I recently started working at Game (yes, yes overpriced) and on my tour of the stock room found we had a whole wall covered from floor to ceiling with ps2 games we are apparantly desperate to be rid of. While they arn't quite desperate enough yet to start giving them away they are going for dirt cheap prices; I reccomend checking out pawn shops as well for cheap buys.

Not to mention the timesplitter series (all three), dynasty warriors series (if you like those), kingdom hearts and the fact that most new games are still coming out on the ps2.

For some reason, my PS2 has lasted where all (2) my DVD players have failed, so on that basis alone I'd say sure.

Add to that Ico, and Katamari Damacy.

It's a venerable enough platform, that there really is something for everybody.
Asterix and Obelix
Mr. Mosquito
there's even a classic hexgrid wargame which I have yet to fire up.

Especially now that there's no Backwards Compatibility for PS2 games in the PS3--the only way to get those PS2 games is to jump back a generation and get a PS2.
They removed that big backwards compatability chip from the PS3 when? Yes its not an emotion chip, but it works well enough.

PS2 has a huge library of games and still looks decent enough to play. I am not sure about recent sales figures, but I do know that the system was outselling ps3 and 360 in terms of games even a year after the 'nextgen' consoles came out.

Absolutely essential if you're a fan of jrpgs, sports games, or are just a gamer who doesn't care if their console doesn't have newer games you can't go wrong with the price. Here they are around 90 USD.

...how can you like JRPGs and not have had a Ps2?
This is confusing me, as well. It's like loving RTS' and not playing on your PC.

Considering a PS2 is dirt cheap, with an enormous back catalogue of games that are also dirt cheap I would say...

YES!

PS3 doesn't have backwards compatability if you buy the rock-bottom cheap one, but they're still expensive, and the compatability remains incomplete in the PS3.
It's amazingly good value to get a PS2, and there are stonkloads of games waiting to be played on it.
