Should I buy a PS3?

Mmmmm..... If you like Dark souls, Demon's souls and, Dark Souls 2 .... as far as I know is listed as Ps3 so there's another reason for a soul fan

Eh. I prefer the Xbox 360 myself and will never get a PS3... Just me though. Idk about you. Could be. Depends on what you wanna do and such.

If you have a 360, don't bother.
If you don't have a 360, then sure.

I think you might be forgetting about something the PS3 can do that this person has pointed out...

and in the end it can stream Netflix and other movie sites and is also a pretty good BluRay player that happens to be 3d.

OT: Besides the amount of HD collections, Tales games, and any games you already have on your list, it's worth getting a PS3... Even if you just stick to the games you have in mind, that's still enough to justify getting a PS3... (But, that's just me...)

The Persona games are something that I'd need to check out. I've heard enough good things about them but I know absolutely nothing about the games themselves.

To me, that's a good thing... While you wait for Persona 5 to come out, you can buy Persona 3: FES off PSN... If willing to do a bit of "sim"-related gameplay alongside your turn-based combat gameplay as they switch between the two through an in-game day-by-day mechanic, then you'll have no trouble joining the club... (Also, hope you like "dungeons"...)

PS3 has BluRay. So? I really do NOT care for BluRay at all... It's only useful for keeping everything onto one disc. Otherwise, I don't care for it...

Though yes, I'll admit. I wouldn't mind having it but don't flat-out care.

I just have two problems with PS3...

One: PS3 is crap at rendering when compared to the 360. Compare a picture of Skyrim on the 360 to on the PS3. On the PS3 version, the graphics starts to blur extremely close to the player (Only noticable if you truly are paying attention). 360, the blurs begins at a much further distance. Much further distance. (I'm a huge RPG player, especially game world stuff. So I like to have better rendering). Note: Somebody already proved this by taking a picture of the Riverwood on both versions with same-looking characters, same angles, same positions, etc.

Two: Cannot get Rock Band 3 customs on the PS3. Only on Wii and Xbox 360 (And Wii is EXTREMELY limited). That is the big one for sures... Even if I'm interested in PS3 games, I probably would still end up spending more hours in RB3 due to all the customs than all of the PS3-specific games combined together. (I've already probably spent a good old 15-20 hours on playing customs... Had a lot of long Metallica sessions XD).

That's me though. It depends on everybody else what they want and such. Sometimes, PS3 is better for one. Others, 360. Those are just my reasons though for using the Xbox 360.

In a similar boat myself, having only ever played an Xbox 360 this generation. I would argue that the PS3 is a much more worthwhile purchase if you can only get one console; it had better exclusives, the free online service had more features and you could play Blu-Ray on it if you're into that sort of thing.

It would be a much easier decision to make if the PS4 was properly backwards compatible. Then you could get one of those, be future-proof for the next generation and also be able to play the greatest hits from the PS3 library like Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted and The Last Of Us.

I bought a PS3 last August and I've been enjoying myself a lot. Very, very good exclusive library. Tales series, Disgaea series, Uncharted series, God of War series, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, Dragon's Crown, the flOw-Flower-Journey trilogy, awesome JRPG Ni No Kuni, The Last of Us... plus all the HD remakes... PSN is for free, that's a huge plus. Multiplayer and online co-op runs smooth so far. Last time I checked it was also cheaper than the Xbox 360. And not that I'm too crazy about it, but you can play Blu-Ray.

Thanks for the advice. Now there's a 95% chance I'll buy one. As for the games...

I had considered the Uncharted series but wasn't sure. If it's anything like Tomb Raider with more action packed in, I might as well give it a try.

If you like Tomb Raider, I definitely suggest it. A lot of people say Drake is a douche or think to hard about the story - thus, they don't like it. It's not a bad story. Think Indiana Jones type over the top approach to storytelling. What I love about the titles is you will get ~15-20min bursts of action packed moments that are broken up by 2-3 minute cutscenes. Sometimes the transition is so good, I have a hard time telling where the cutscene and the player controlled part are separated. Just don't go into it thinking it is going to be some epic tale of anything. It's just a light hearted adventure.

Valkyria Chronicles, eh? If it plays anything like final fantasy tactics (or XCOM for a more western example) then I'm all for it.

Yeah, you definitely need to get that game then if you like X-Com and FF Tactics. It's awesome. It brings something new to the table for squad turn based.

Red Dead Redemption? Sure, why not?

Man, that game is so big and has so much in it... I raced through it the first time. ON my second playthrough I was more patient. When did that game come out? *googles* Yeah, it took me 2 and a half years to beat it a second time when I strolled through it checking stuff out. (And it still isnt at 100% - probably never will be)

Blue-Ray: Another thing to know, the Blue Ray isn't just some cheap Blue Ray player. The PS3 is known to be one of the best Blue Ray players on the market (Sony is an electronics leader after all) so long as you can avoid the plastic sliding guard cover over the disc. You want the ones that draw the disc into a slot.

Well, to be honest, those are just two of the games I don't have on my PS3... But, kinda for different reasons...

In terms of Skyrim, I just liked playing it on the 360 just like with Oblivion... and ended up borrowing my friend's 360 instead of my cousin's... (despite it was my cousin's copy of Oblivion I was playing off of back then...) And in terms of Rockband 3, yeah, it's was the whole "customs" thing that made me "persuade" my friend to get it for his 360... (on top of just always wanting to play that game with someone else... unlike DDR...)

Yeah, I personally never cared for the PS3's rendering since I was mainly drawn to the amount of games I would be playing on it... with its Blu-ray player being just an added bonus to me... (Also, there weren't enough 360 games to justify me buying one myself... But, again, that's just me...)

Obvious answer is the one that comes first: the console exclusive games. With a PS3 I'd be able to play games like The Last of Us, the mandatory Journey playthrough experience, Catherine (I find it to be a fascinating concept for a puzzle game), Dark Souls (since I refuse to play it on PC because of GFWL) and I even managed to find an remastered collection of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. Maybe even GTA V if I can't wait for the PC release. As you can see, I have a small game library already planned, but then what else? What else can I add to this list that I can't get on Steam/Origin/GOG/etc (all hail the glorious PC master race)?

The various HD collections of 6th-gen classics.

Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders and Kingdom Hearts all have HD collections and should keep you busy for a while.

You also have access to the PSone and PS2 Classics through PSN, so you can pick up greats like Parasite Eve, Spyro and Katamari Damacy.

Beyond that, I'm going to reinforce your plans for Journey and Catherine.
