Looks to be about the same, if not exactly the same, as the baseline 13.3" MacBook. Presumably, you are okay with using OS X, so I won't caution you there. A new 13.3" MacBook runs at least $1000, so I can't find a good reason not to buy it from the specs. Of course, don't buy it without taking it for a test run first.

No, Because it is used the chances are it has been dropped, It may have been exposed to liquid, as well as structural fatigue from use. The battery will also be more worn out, meaning you will have to sent the computer off to apple for an expensive replacement sooner than getting a new one. The specs for this computer are also unimpressive. For the same amount of money you could pick up a new laptop from a website like tiger direct, that has a warranty and is not a mac.
Remember, buying used puts you at great risk. (and mac computers suck)
You can PM me for my opinion on a laptop choice if you wish to go that route.

Just for you info use the quote button it informs people that your responding to their specific post and they might actually answer you. What i think he is getting at is that getting a macbook with those specs new would be a lot more then 500 bucks, even used from a store would be a lot more then just getting it from a friend.

It takes a lot for me not to sing a song of the overpriced junk that is apple

Absolutely. Macbooks are incredible machines; assuming he's being honest about it's condition, definitely buy it.

That is a bargain. Go for it. I wish I could have gotten my Macbook Pro for $500.

Instead, this computer I am typing on now costs more than my car. Good thing it was a graduation present from my father!

All that stuff is dated. HDD is slow- nothing less then a 7200RPM drive. RAM isn't great- theres not enough of its only the 667mhz chips. Macs probably have a new chipset by now. The only thing good is the CPU, and that is even old- up to the Core i series. It probably only has 3 Mb cache on the CPU too. Not sure how the Mac OS holds up power wise though compared to Windows.

And I agree with what Hashime said. Used computers are worse then used cars.

Sure. I enjoy mine. Of course, it was a Christmas gift, so I didn't actually pay for it, and I've never been a PC gamer so I don't really know what I'm missing in that respect. So maybe I'm not the right person to ask.

What country are you in? $500 Au is about what you'd pay (maybe 1 or 2 hundred dollars less) for a comparable 13" laptop[footnote]comparable laptops all have faster HDDs, better processers and faster ram, but the performance gain isn't really necessary for a word processor/internet surfer[/footnote] unless, so if you want MACos then dive on it, if you're not fussed and just want a laptop, look around, I imagine budget laptops overseas are considerably cheaper (even after postage+import tax, my not-so budget laptop was almost $400au cheaper), I mean the HDD is slow, the processor is pretty soft etc, so it won't be a gaming/entertainment rig, but if it's just for study/internet then it's not a bad little rig.

I'd say you could get a better Windows-based laptop for the same price. You could probably find one with a 15" screen and 4Gb of RAM (even for daily use, more RAM is always better)
