As you may or may not know, JB Hi-Fi (big electronics and gaming retailer in Aus to users from across the pond) is doing a deal wherein if you pre-order Dead Island not only do you get some sort of DLC (I believe you get a new chainsaw-type weapon and a survival mode for free) but you also receive a pair of Turtle Beach headphones (model Px21).

Now, like alot of people I've been keeping up with Dead Island since the haunting trailer we all remember so well and since then I've liked everything I've seen. Originally I thought that perhaps I'd get it towards the end of the year (the game itself being released on the 9th of September over here) when the price died down if the reviews were good, but I've looking into purchasing an affordable pair of turtle beaches for a mighty long time (anything beats the awkwardness of my current headphones and communication setup for the xbox) so the way I see it this could kill two birds with one stone. What do you guys think? Should I spend $130 (believe me, I almost never pre-order games or even get them near release for reaons of price) to pre-order a great-looking game and get might convenient hedphones or should I not?

Normally, I would say no considering that doesn't seem worth the price through the eyes of an American. However, looking over the price of those headphones, and then considering the horror stories that are the prices of games in Australia, that seems like a steal. I would do it.

Turtle Beach headphones? Go for it.

They are expensive in the U.S. but have very good sound quality.

Aye, but to be fair, going out to see a movie costs you maybe 10-20 bucks for 2-3 hours of entertainment. With that in mind I don't see the harm in paying between 80 and 100 for upwards of hundreds of hours of entertainment (besides, that's only for new-release games. A few monthst after a games release and the price drops significantly).

They are good headphones, and the game seems pretty good to boot. If the game ends up sucking, at least you have the nice headphones.

It's pretty much worth it for the headphones alone. If the game sucks, sell it on eBay. Then you still have a decent pair of headphones at a very low price. Win!

The game isn't close as to what was in the trailer.
It's a co-op hack n' slash, not a deep emotional story about love, family and loss.
Buy the headphones regardless.

Aye, I have watched quite a few gameplay videos since hat trailer, but like I said I've liked what I've seen. For what it's worth the characters (both playable and non-playable) look pretty fleshed out when compared to other co-op games like, say, Borderlands and I gotta say that sometimes, for all the fanciness and complexity of alot of games nowadays sometimes it's just nice to cut up zombies with electrified machetes in a game that isn't part of the Dead Rising franchise.

As for the headphones, part of the reason I'm going for this deal (and I think will go for it for sure...I've been away for two weeks hence the late reply and decision) is because I haven't been able to find a good pair of turtle-beaches in stores around here so it's like my only chance.

As I see it is "get PX21's and a game for free". I have PX21's and boy are those fuckers loud!

I am no sound expert but I like my PX21's, there comfy and have a cable that's more than long enough, the control is nice and dandy.

They make me hot though, like seriously hot! Might be more to do with me than the headset though.

I would suggest going for it.
