Should I get a 360 or a PS3?

Check out which exclusives you like the look of on both consoles and see which ones you like better. Also as I am sure others have said PS3 did not have anywhere near a 50%+ failure rate while launch 360s had a rough 68% failure rate. Anyway if you want a360 you are better off with a new one. I was lucky with my old one and it went strong with no failures for four years which is not too bad considering how other people got on with theirs.

I grabbed a PS3 November of last year mainly due to Demon's Souls, but other exclusives like Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, Disgaea 3, and the upcoming The Last Guardian helped. (I gave away the bundled copy of Uncharted 2, so that was not a factor.)

Really, there's not much on the XBox 360 that I want, save for maybe some of the indie games. The closest one is Fable 3, and that's still only something I'd consider from a bargain bin.

If you get one with backwards compatibility and don't have a PS2, I'd definitely recommend the PS3; there's a lot of excellent PS2 games.

Though it doesn't seem like we share many of the same tastes in games, I figured I'd just toss this out there for anyone else reading the thread.

I would recommend the xbox 360 because of the backwards compatibility
also last year i had to make the same decision got a xbox haven't had one problem
the indie games that you can get are only like 4$ but there really good

I would not be saying that my friend has had a core from the launch date hasn't even had one problem then he got a ps3 broke in 2 weeksand he only used it for15 hours in all

Ahh one of the most difficult questions for a gamer.

Personally i'd say ps3 but that's cause I grew up on Playstation (plus I don't want to pay for online)

The PS3 has a much smaller failure rate. But gets served when multiplatform games come to play.

Controller with a much better feel for anything besides shooters. But requires recharging a lot.

Interchangeable Hard Drive. But needing format if to be inserted on another PS3.

Better collection of exclusives. Even better games overall with ME2. Bad internet browser.

Free online play. Leaderboards hacked to death.

PSone Classics from Soul Reaver to Abe's Odyssey. No backwards compatibility.

Online Storing Space. With Playstation Plus.

What about the failure rate of the early models? It's not like I can warranty a used console, and both systems had a greater-than-50% failure rate for nearly a year.

So, what do you think?

I own a 60 gig release PS3 (as in, a PS3 purchased on release day). I love it - I have never had any problems with failure or maintenance.

For the first year or two of owning it, I played almost nothing but PS2 and PS1 games on it, because I was so happy to have ni infinite memory cards. Backwards compatibility was my top requirement for use. I have a huge library of PS2 and PS1 games that I play on it frequently.

I've also bought some PS3 games for it, of course, but only 15 or 16 of them. Most of my game library is PS2.

Hope that helped. Obviously that's just my experience (although of my friends, the one who owns a PS3 has never had any trouble, while the three 360 owners have bricked at least one unit each - Microsoft has replaced some of those units free, though).

Doesn't really matter what you choose. Most games get made both for ps3 and xbox these days.

Though if you want multiplayer, without having to pay for it, go with ps3.

I like the PS3. It has bluray too.
Also it has Demon's Souls.
And God of War III
And tons of other stuff that the 360 doesn't yet most of what the 360 has the PS3 has too.

Well, I have a 360 because I like Halo, but if you don't like that, then 360 has a good selection of arcade games, backwards compatibility with all models, and generally, multiplatform games are better on the 360. It also has access to Mass Effect 1, which the PS3 doesn't, but tries to compensate with a little comic with some choices for Mass Effect 2, but PC also has ME1.
Another 360 Exclusive is GoW, which I personally didn't enjoy.
The online is nice, and to all people complaining about the cost, do you think most people with jobs will not be able to afford 10 USD a month, or 60 USD a year?

Edit: On the other hand, PS3 seems to have a larger amount of exclusives, can function as a Blu Ray player, and free online.

The XBOX has more of a Casual Gamer-Kinda thing going on for it. Therfore it has manly and tough games so casual gamers know what they'll expect. Gunfights and cover-based-shooting.

The PS3 ont he other hand is trying to reach fanbases from older/Core games.

With a Remake of Monkey Island, and Backwards compatability for older PS2 titles.

If neither of these suit you, fuck it. Wii's good enough.

It's getting close to the end of this generation of console's lifespan.
Therefore, there are dozens of amazing games to play on each.

I'd say PS3, though .. 'cos it also doubles as a blu-ray player.
(Although, if you don't have a HDTV, it's a bit pointless)

And now when there is Mass Effect 2 for PS3 there is no reason to only own a 360
