It is on sale for $5 and I heard great things about it.

Is it worth the money?

Is it worth it if I get my FPS fill from TF2? Are they significantly different (besides aesthtic of course).

Also Counter Strike Global Offense seems very cool. Do we have to pay for CS:GO or is it a free patch for those who already own CS:S?

I say no.

It's a very fun game with friends, but the online players are freakishly good, and every single encounter basically boils down to who can twitch fast enough to score a headshot.

Not just with snipers, mind you; with every single gun in the game.

TF2 is very different; it's much friendlier and, well, easier.

Well...I am not terrible at video games haha, is their any other reason not to get besides it's hard?

Not really, no. As a game, regardless of the player base, it's certainly worth $5. Hell, you might wanna get it just so you can see what all the fuss is about. I personally don't find it fun unless I'm playing it with my friends.

But then, I've never been spectacular at online play, so maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

As already mentioned, a lot of the people online are freakishly good. You might think you are good at video games, but these people will just put you to shame and make you cry. It is insanely frustrating. If you have the massive amounts of patience required to go through the rather rough and long learning process, then it is most certainly worth it; however, if you are not really a patient person, then I would save that 5 dollars for a fancy coffee drink or something.

I tried Counter Strike a few years ago, and I can't say I was impressed. No matter what gun you have, you always go for headshots. "Twitch" reflexes are a must if you wish to do well. This results in a very steep learning curve if you're playing against experienced players who have memorized the maps. Also, the high lethality of weapons encourages all sorts of cheap tactics, like camping corners and flashbang spam.

Also, the community that plays Counter Strike is one of the worst I've ever experienced. It's full of trash talking kids and douchebag frat boys (at least there were on the servers I tried).

There are too many people that are far too good at it. I swear I've been pegged by people before I even realize I've turned the corner. The people that excel at CS:S are frighteningly good at it. It's really not a game that embraces new players at all.
