Y'see, for a long time, I've been trying to get into a good FPS. Halo 3 is quite cheap now, however, I see a lot of Halo loving, and a lot of Halo bashing, so this is making me unsure if I should get it. One of the other problems is that I hardly play online (mainly because everyone is so much better than me in most games) so would that matter? I'm confused as to whether or not I should buy this.

If you've played the previous games in the series, go ahead. If not then there are other good shooting games out there. Like, um... Something.

It has a massive online community, and Bungie is still continuing to support it - the fact that Halo 2 servers are still up bodes well for the future, when the Call of Dutys and Team Fortress 2s may not be playable. Of course, that's rampant speculation and probably all wrong (Microsoft'll probably pull the plug on the Xbox 360 killing all of those games...) but still - definately go for it!

This, any of the CoD series is fun.

If you're looking for a good campaign, halo is fun with friends but fairly mediocre on your own. The multiplayer is OK and you can mess about with friends in forge (map editor) and custom games.

This is exactly how I feel about it. An awesome campaign with 3 friends but I founf it a little bland whilst playing on my lonesome.

Halo is good for a laugh but not for a serious gaming commitment. IF you just want an easy shooter to chill with you have a winner.

It's really a very good game, I think people mainly bash it because on the internet, it seems to give their patethic lives meaning and postpone their inevitable suicide.
Yes. I'm evil.

If you don't have gold or anyone to system link with, you might want to pass this one over, especially if you haven't played the previous titles. If you want a good shooter you might want to try Gears of War, which is fairly different with an effective control system (also longer campaign and will be even cheaper than Halo 3 at the moment).

If you're going to mostly be playing multiplayer, I'd wait for ODST which is released soon, if only so you don't need to faff about with MS Points and buying DLC to play more than 15% of the Halo 3 game modes.

I would recommend getting it, decent campaign, good graphics, half-understandable story line, each weapon has its own distinct look (so you know EXACTLY what you're picking up) and a good community. If you ever consider going online, buy a decent mic. Forge is awsome for screwing around and doing what you think will make a map better.

If you want it for the multiplayer, wait until September 22 when ODST comes out. You'll get the ODST campaign, Firefight, as well as a Halo 3 multiplayer disc with all of the DLC maps included.
If you want to play the Halo 3 campaign for the story, then do it. It's a well-built game despite all the detractors. You'll find the majority of people who bash Halo generally fall into a few categories:
- People who've never played Halo games and bash the series because it's trendy to do so
- People who've never played Halo (or played very little) and call it "generic" because a) they have no idea what the story is, and; b) a lot of modern FPS games since 2001 have used gameplay mechanics Halo introduced
- People who bash the gameplay mechanics for not being realistic - because apparently sci-fi in general is supposed to be grounded in reality.

Anyway, just give it a go. Halo 3 is a solid game.

It's a pretty good game though I personally find CoD4 to be better, but with the sequel right on the horizon, you might as well wait for that.

For the price it's going for on the internet now there's no good reason to not buy it.

It's a good game, not descending from heaven good but good none the less.

halo isn't a bad game, it's just seen as mainstream and mainstream games usually get a lot of flak. all you need to realize is that there are going to be a LOT of idiots online and most of them are less than 15 years old and don't even know what the hell the swear words there calling you are. it doesn't really matter what other people think about a game, try renting it for a few days, play it and it YOU like it, there should be no reason for you not to get it, if you don't, no big deal, anyone who criticizes cause you don't like something mainstream are idiots.

If you hardly play online then really a shooter like Halo really won't last you long. UNLESS you play with RL friends a lot offline. While the single player campaign is fun it certainly isn't the best single player a shooter has to offer and frankly you'll most likely get bored of it after playing through by yourself a few times. Halo's main draw is it's multiplayer. So again if your not going to be playing multiplayer you probably aren't going to get your moneys worth from the game.
