Should my Xbox be doing this?

To all of you 360 gamers out there, I need your help and opinions. My Xbox is apparently being very loud, as I had two people tell me it sounds, well, too loud. First off, I want to know if anyone is having trouble with the MW2 edition of the Xbox, or if their 360s are loud, too. Second, I want to see if anyone can explain why it is so loud, and if it should be making all of this noise.

1. It "hums" about twice as loudly as my other 360, and it makes a slight "clicking" noise every once in a while. I think the second part might be natural to the system, though.

2. It plays perfectly, but so did my last system (lasted four years, then decided to die on me without any warning).

3. I need to have confirmation about whether or not I have a problem in the next few days, so that I can return it.

Note: Please only tell me if the thing is busted if it actually IS busted. I really don't want to see a million "I don't know. Buy another one." or "Xbox sucks! Buy a [fill in the blank]." posts. These things are expensive, so I want to see if anyone with this same experience or plenty of Xbox knowledge can explain this.

UPDATE: I think I am just going to replace it. I took the discout and closed the tray, causing it to make the scariest noise I have ever heard coming out of a game system. It made a series of noises, finally ending in a noise that sounded a little like a kazoo (best description I can give you).

It doesn't sound like you have too bad of a problem, but if you can get it checked easily that probably wouldnt hurt

Ok first off it shouldn't be clicking or loud now mine is loud but I got a launch console that has yet to break so I haven't gotten the quieter fan in it. Mine does form time to time get very loud and I turn it off imediately not wanting it to blow up and ruin something. I do not know if it is busted but if there somewhere that is cheap to get it fixed or at least looked at I'd recommmend you get it looked at.

It shouldn't be clicking. That could be a sign that it's having trouble reading discs.
As for making a louder "hum", that usually arises as a result of poor ventilation. Is it situated in a sort-of enclosed space?

If you were in England, I'd suggest buying insurance from GAME. Seriously, £20 for 2 years on an elite, and they don't even check what theh system's like. But unlessit actually dies on you, then just wait until it does before returning.

You might be onto something there. It's not really in an enclosed space, but it is less than a foot away from the wall.

Well, I'm not going to say it IS busted. But I AM going to say it may BE busted soon. Running twice as loud and clicking? Please determine if it feels like it's running hotter than the other one, or just if you think it's running hotter than normal. If so, one of the components may by having a seize-up similar to a PC hard drive doing same. What I'm trying to say is that something in there is encountering friction and is doing its best to compensate. Your X-Box MAY burn out soon, if I'm right.

Mine is having trouble reading discs too, the hum is the disc reader. It's spinning up faster then normal to get a read - why I don't know. I'm too lazy to pack it up for fixing as long as it still works.

For gods sake don't try to fix it yourself. For me, blowing into it (seriously) actually seems to help some, so it may just need cleaning. In any case check if it's still under warrenty at the official website and then pack it up and send it in to Microsoft for fixing.

Mine's really loud too, especially when reading discs, but it's a launch unit (hasn't failed yet *crosses fingers*)

The clicking sound could be your disc being scratched, just make sure to check your discs once in a while for any scratches. If I were you tho, I wouldn't worry too much about it, I'd play it until it fails, then replace it.

::snips - clicking and humming::
Sounds like drive problems. The clicking might be the disc rubbing the side of the tray while spinning. The humming could be an alignment problem in the motor. Can't properly diagnose this myself without being there to hear it, and the only real solution I am aware of is to replace the drive manually.

Noooo don't, you crack it open you void your warrenty. Get MS to fix it first if you can.

Sorry I misspoke - I wasn't actually recommending that, I just know a guy who used to do that for people and as far as I know that's the only way to fix it. Definitely don't do it yourself especially if you can just send it back to Microsoft. You may just want to exchange it for a new XBox and see if it doesn't work better.
